Kildare seniors have the beaten Munster finalists up next, Prob Cork methinks, If I was Ryan, I would throw caution to the wind, and use the game to test the young Kildare lads. We have nothing to lose.

stanley8m: Or Central Council could divert some of the massive funding Dublin have now, to develop the games in the other Leinster counties.

A strong Leinster would benefit the game, remember the 90's and 00's when Kildare, Meath, Dublin, Westmeath, Laois etc were all competing for top honours.

We need a strong Leinster again.

Certainly Dublin need a strong Leinster and more
Importantly the game needs it but a lot of funding
Dublin receives is generated in dublin and should
Be rightly filtered back there, its generated through
Fundraising, also comes from money generated from
Dublin supporters who get behind their team no matter
Where they play

This funding we receive should not be used as an excuse
For other counties under achieving and its funded on a per
Head per population basis, meath and Kildare have massive
Populations and receive a lot of funding and should be doing
Much better, its a lot to do with laziness of former greats
Of the game not pulling their weight and putting something
Back into the game

Go further back into the game to the seventies when Leinster
Was strong the people of dublin had little interest in Gaelic
Games, it wasn't the done thing to say you supported dublin
Footballers, there wasn't the funding we have now and there
Was also strong competition with other sports for bodies to
Play the game, we still found success without the mind gurus
The dietitions etc that the funding has brought, we still
Got success through skill and determination, its not soccer
Where a club can buy success by buying players, ye can't buy
Skill and class, look at our hurlers....
Filter the money down, what we lose in funding we,all gain
In competivness, strong hard games in Leinster and it will
Take away the excuses for other counties under achieving

time to bring back the all ireland b champ for weaker counties gives them more football and has them playing up to the end of august unless knocked out maybe another avenue for weaker counties is outside county players have an option of playing with another county if they cant make there senior intercounty team look at kerry hurlers they had four intercounty hurlers from clare and tipp another from cork were delighted to play with kerry to win a christy ring medal

True, would make it worth tuning in for the b championship games, might
Get games like meath and westmeath a fortnight ago
And I'd pay money quicker to watch that rather than
Dublin in Leinster

Not a big fan of players playing for other counties
Its setting a precedent and might only be if it the
Stronger counties if it becomes more common, most
Players will die for their own parish jersey than
Another, although our hurler Ryan Dwyer a tipp man
Gives blood and sweat to the blue jersey all the time
But the same player gave a cork man an excuse to poke
Me 2 years ago

I used his unfair sending off as the game changer in
The all Ireland semis " sure he shouldn't be playing
For dublin anyway" was his response, he went on a rant
About seany Johnson until I reminded his it all
Started way back with Larry Tompkins a great Kildare
Man!

It gives another excuse for fans when their team
Under achieves

It has created an imbalance at club level, kilmacud
Crokes are an example, nice sweetners
Country players and other club players
In dublin are receiving to play for them, ballyboden
As well

It creates a type of corruption in the
Game but at the same time its a shame
To see players like dessie Dolan never
Playing on the biggest day so its a hard
One

Don't get me wrong JT, I am not making excuses.
I have been involved in clubs in Dublin, Crokes and other clubs on the Southside, and believe me what they offer kids takes some dollars.

Kids in Kildare are turning towards rugby and soccer now, which is a great pity when you see the minors and U21's after winning a few Leinsters recently.

The funding Dublin receive is not all generated by Dublin GAA, Bertie awarded the €6,500,000 and the dubs receive, €2,500,000 a year from GAA compared to a measly €65,000 for Kildare and Meath.

All I am saying is Leinster football and hurling will benefit from a bit more equality with the funding.

A strong Leinster is good for the games. thumbs up

Fair enough, find it hard to believe Kildare only receive
That much and if they do its a disgrace
The funding dublin receives has to service
A far bigger population, its true though a strong
Leinster benefits everyone

I see there is an investigation into the Armagh v Dublin challenge match where Davey Byrne received horrific injuries. Sounds like a really rough game.

Fair play to Jim Gavin for telling about the video coverage of the entire game in the interview with Woolie Parkinson, so all incidents can be investigated and bans handed down. A true sportsman. thumbs up

Ah, shure, it was only a few slaps, it's a manly sport, and shure a bit of a fracas only livens up a game. laugh

I remember playing against a huge ape of a full back, and the first thing he told me, after the initial introductory dig to the kidneys, was if I scored off him I wasn't walking off the pitch. laugh

Thankfully I was quick on my feet back then. super

But you are right, the game should learn from other sports, I like the sin bin in rugby, and think that would work well in gaelic games.

Best of luck against Cork later, jeez, I def don't want to see this Kildare team facing Kerry next week.

Stan, Moc, JT wave

Going back many's a year, my favourite was the 'auld fella dragging his heel across the turf and telling the "wee cub", cross that line and I'll break your legs!!! I fear for our game, I really do sigh

Far be it for me to condone violence, but, it is a contact sport. Last Sunday, I was screaming at Donegal to "put him out". Where has the "fair shoulder" gone? It's now down to a scientific equation. Our game is losing it's passion. Yes, I know you will all come back at me quoting this game and that game, but those games are now the exception, not the rule.

I will leave you with this memory and you can take your own conclusions from it (and believe me, I could leave you with a lot more from my own county!!), Westmeath V Meath, second half.......

well now isnt it grt to see the weaker counties getting through i expected fermanagh to get thru as peter macgrath is a shrewd coach has done it all twice before with down stan yere improving jason ryan has got ye on a roll yes we will need gooch at corner forward if weve any chance to get more scores as he is a clinical finisher glen should have least got a draw in ulster final depends now whether the players have appetite to win the next match after losing it can be very hard to motivate to win i have to say what a let down that cork team are for there supporters really threw in the towel against kildare two of my cork friends rang last night both were very cross with the players having no fight in them they told me they need a kerry manager to take them over they had a former kerry trainer this year with them pat flanagan who trained kerry to win an all ireland in 2004 dont know about mayo ive yet to see aidan o se play well on all ireland final day or semi final both semi finals last year against kerry he was poor and what annoyed me was trying to get physical when the play was not at his end of the field he still hasnt preformed on all ireland final day i dont think mayo will win all ireland donegal to come with another sneaky plan for mayo or the dubslaugh now what about the farnies unbeaten so far in the championship are they a one trick team if macmanus is marked taken out or gets injured i have to say donegal had two men on him the last day and lost and macmanus was on fire.
now here we go tyrone the team the most kerry fans dread and especially in croke park they have beaten us three times in the 2000s two nall irelands and a semi final they seem very rejuvenated and should and could take monaghan in a quarter final the championship is interesting and no doubt theyl be another suprise in the making chat to ye all soon mike

Glengirl: Hey Stan

Fantastic result for Kildare tonight, I didn't get to see it, and to be honest, did not expect it

I was also shocked at Fermanagh's win.....a strange match up but can't say I'm delighted for Fermanagh, we have "history"

It's funny, this time last year, I was out of the country and thanks to GAAGO, I watched every single football and hurling match that was televised. This year, I'm only seeing what's on RTE

I'm looking forward to the quarters, let's hope that belief is instilled in our so called weaker counties

Thanks Glen, and Moc, I wasn't expecting it either but great to see all the McGeeneyites on the Kildare forum eating humble pie.

Not that I would rub their noses in it or anything. innocent

This is the site, sport lemon, I watched the game on, thankfully got a good stream and with nephew's aid linked it up to the TV.

Kildare and Fermanagh will be an unusual pairing in the semi.cheers
