A friend of mine is working on a medical application that uses a smartphone to detect the size/depth and condition of the diabetic-foot injuries and the images are just horrible and the risk of diabetic people is rather high for having their feet amputated.

What is your risk on getting diabetes, not to get paranoid but to prevent it!

There are some simple tests here to know about your risks in several diseases including diabetes.

In México diabetes is a serious problem.
Besides, diabetic people do not take good care of their feet.

The cost for the diabetics here is abour 6,000 million dolars, quite some money and the worst is the risk of the diabetic people for getting a limb removed 70,000 each year, here!!!

There are not many budget gadgets to identify the "diabetic foot" problem but also diabetics are not aware of the problem.

so, is it you Vinny?
The Vinny with the nice pinkisk shirt?

Good to see you again!

And thanks for your comments but please do not to waste your time.

"People with diabetes must be fully aware of how to prevent foot problems before they occur, to recognize problems early, and to seek the right treatment when problems do occur.

Although treatment for diabetic foot problems has improved, prevention - including good control of blood sugar level - remains the best way to prevent diabetic complications.

People with diabetes should learn how to examine their own feet and how to recognize the early signs and symptoms of diabetic foot problems.

They should also learn what is reasonable to manage routine at home foot care, how to recognize when to call the doctor, and how to recognize when a problem has become serious enough to seek emergency treatment."

Better would be to prevent diabetes itself.

The diabetic foot

"Diabetes foot problems represents several diseases in which high blood sugar levels over time can damage the nerves, kidneys, eyes, and blood vessels. Diabetes can also decrease the body's ability to fight infection. When diabetes is not well controlled, damage to the organs and impairment of the immune system is likely. Foot problems commonly develop in people with diabetes and can quickly become serious.

......foot problems the diabetic can have and include

1. Infection

2. Ulcerations

3. Peripheral Neuropathy(foot numbness)

4. Fungal nails

It is important that the diabetic sees a foot doctor 4 times a year for a foot exam and nail and callus trimming."
