I was speaking with someone at work about this very question. My answer is that I think parents have the right to do whatever they want to do with their money, estate or wills. If they wish to spend it all before they pass away well, they earned it so they should spend it. I think it's more important to love them and, when they pass away to love them for being your parents and creating you.
I got my dad's old Gibson guitar, his welder and the anvil that I cherish the most. I was happy to get what I got. It was his to do with whatever he wanted to do with it. My daughter has the guitar now even though I gave it to my son. She has restrung it. I had to sell the welder to have money.
Our parents owe us NOTHING beyond taking care of us to the best of their ability until we reach the age of majority.
Traditionally children took care of their aging parents and then inherited whatever was left because they earned it.
As someone who worked as a Senior Citizen Advocate for many years, I can vouch for the fact that today's grown kids for the most part don't give their parents anything....nor financially, emotionally, or otherwise.
When people die other people in the family many times become so ugly about the monitary............So for me it wouldn't matter for other family memebers yes It will get ugly ........
