Well that sure sucks, and yes, been there myself 
People somtimes think of Slovenia being one of a so called "third countries" and they ask me if we are still in war...
Amm...no,happened 15 years ago and it lasted for 10 days...
So we consider ourselves being safe now.. 
It happend few times that guys thought we are so damn poor here, that Im actually looking for a "prince" to save me from poverty and take me to a better life. I guess they imagine us living in huts and consider having indoors toilette a privledge
But I suggest u let that go. Only cultivated people know that we (you and us) are doing just fine- really great as a matter of fact! and have the same value like everyone else.
So be proud of who you are and where you come from!!

You so lucky, to have a national identity! I come from South Africa, where most of the people are Black. Being White, I am a nothing..... with mixed European ancestry. Its like looking down on the world, with knowledge of my country, that no one is interested in!

I'm originally from Europe, lived in 5 countries, 2 continents, have interacted with many cultures, speak 9 languages, and trust me, one thing all these nations have in common is they all have a**hole who insult people from other nations, other social levels, other races, etc... that's generally due to them being ignorant most likely because they are under-educated and not well-traveled, maybe they give in to stereotypes (which I have to admit can be funny and true many times) - or simply because they think it's funny. What I do when people try to insult me because of anything, I just turn my back and look towards the other 6 billion people this world has to offer and walk away... trust me you're not losing much doing so. (or sometimes if I really feel like going off on them then I give them a piece of my educated mind lol).

Life can be hilarious at times! Coming from the Southern tip of the Continent of Africa, I find the Swiss very ignorant of that country..... they seem to think that Africa is one big country with no different cultures, and that Everyone lives in mud or grass huts, have no electricity or inside loos! They ask me what its like living here with all these mod-cons?!!I was asked if we ate Donkeys and Camels! And when I told them "No, we eat cows and sheep", I got very dis-believing looks! They cannot seem to comprehend individual farmers with herds of 5000 cows.... here they have maximum 20, and each cow gets shampood every week and its bell polished! The Swiss seem to eat only pork?

We all are the best this planet has to offer whatever our respective differences are and those very differences are what make us all the best, for what would we be, who would we be without them. The key is finding how best we can all help each other keep and develop those things that truly make all unique and the best of our common planet. Humankind has many families and it is best for all of us to be in harmony with our "family members"....
