after looking at the fact pattern with never in history of flooding ... as 1000 year flood marks on the land for thousands of years ... same for every flood mark ... it is there as a scar on the land to see.

So .. a real possibility for land to never be flooded suggests that part of the land has subsided ... it has collasped down. That is why the water came in ... and this drop in elevation might have been in the last few months.

if it in deed happened.

My mind can not sort out how water in flooding would go up hill ... where water has never been before over 1000s of years and flood it out now.

Anyhow ... after floods and dam collaspe or other major events the USGS would be set into the measure and plot with elevation the new flood scar line down the valley with the dam burst of water flood as an example.

So with this flood .. the USGS (United States Geological Survey) will go into the new flood area to map it out and find out why.

Why has a place that never flooded before ... do that now.

That is a BIG issue to be sorted out now .. and the USGS is right on it folks .. right now.

It might have sunken over the past few months with the earthquakes on the south New Madrid or there might be a sinkhole opening up.

Anyhow my point is that elevation is important to the USGS for lots of reasons but the big one is ...
