We can talk all we want online, when you get past knowing each other writing notes and mailing them adds something really special to the new relationship or old one.
Handwritten letters take time, effort, and thought. Plus, you can keep them with you forever.
I had a thread early in the holiday season to exchange xmas cards. Real xmas cards. I only got two, but I hear some others got up to 6 or 7, which I think is good. Handwritten, old-fashioned letters are the best, I love exchanging letters and post cards. Nothing beats the thrill of getting "mail" and sitting down with your gel pen and your thoughts, no spell check, no automatic eraser... A person needs to pay attention to what it's doing, no multitasking here.
So now you know I am all up to exchange letters and b-day cards and post cards.
Ir is the older, gentler way that our forebears developed friendships and courted, it is a dying art, and yet it is the sweeter way, in such a hurried world of instant gratification.
I agree, Adrean, sometimes it would seem that handwriting letters are becoming a lost art. There is something very special about putting thoughts and feelings down on paper in your own unique handwriting (even if you think its not very good). I do wonder if we will eventually lose the ability to write, as we care constantly using keyboards and texting these days. Its quite impersonal.
Even if you don't have someone's address, perhaps writing a letter, scanning it and then e-mailing it would be a good compromise? It does give you a warm glow to receive something like that, doesn't it and, besides, someone's handwriting can tell you a little something about them. Dx.
I used to do calligraphy, but I've been typing for so long I'm not sure if I can write by hand anymore. How about I type it into a word processor using a fancy handwriting font and then print it out?

Which came first the paper or the pen? Which came first the haystack or the men? Which came first the dungeon or the den? Who came first? And who will come again?
