Whitelily1, I just found Nicki Parrott while searching for something else... laugh ... You think Nicki should have a duet with Ron Carter? ... snooty ... I think Nicki should do a duet with me! ... rolling on the floor laughing ... I'm not to old to dream... laugh ... "Nicki Parrott is a world-class double bassist and singer/songwriter. In her work with artists from around the globe she has brought a signature sound to every bass part she has played. She performs regularly at the world’s best Jazz Festivals and can be seen Mondays at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City with the legendary guitarist and inventor, Les Paul. Since June of 2000, this union has been an ideal showcase for her musical abilities, flair for improv, and gift for entertaining a crowd. An accomplished stride pianist, Rossano Sportiello grew up listening to Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller and Ralph Sutton, whom he met shortly before the elder’s death. However, his pianistic style also pays homage to the swing and bebop eras."

"This Final Performance Tribute all began on Les Paul's 90th birthday when luminaries from the musical world gathered to celebrate at New York's historic Iridium Jazz Club. Les and friends 'jammed' every Monday for the next four years until the legend left us. Great moments from many of those cool sessions are presented in this tribute to the man who created a sonic boom with the solid-body electric guitar. It's all here."

Yes, Woodsie, the Gibson and Ibanez brands dedicate the Les Paul name and build custom guitars to his standards. The LP's first launch was in 1952.
One of my favorite guitarists is Mark Lettieri who uses a standard Les Paul guitar for almost all of his compositions.
I know the exact details of the guitar used.
because my country often makes these famous guitars.thumbs up

I hope one day you will get a chance for a jam session with Nicky Parrot.. nothing is impossible Woods head banger grin
Here mr. Ray Charles

cheers

I'm trying to get caught up on the music threads I like... laugh ... Lots of new threads... You know about Ibanez Guitars? When I was young, the guitar player that I spent the most time with had a black Les Paul Custom, with all gold hardware, a beautiful and well built guitar, he also had a Guild Star fire 4, it was a hollow body guitar with a completely different sound... I'm really surprised he never made it big... dunno ... innocent ... laugh ... Thanks for your encouragement whitelily, but Nicky Parrott is above my pay grade... laugh ... You know a lot about music! ... hug ... I hope you have a good weekend, and are enjoying the last part of 2022! ... yay ... laugh

"Hit The Road Jack" was released in August 1961 and hit number one for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. It won a Grammy award for Best R&B recording, was number one on the R&B Sides chart for five weeks, and was Ray's sixth number one on that chart. The song is ranked on Rolling Stone magazine's list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time"... wave

hi Woodsie, in our country there is no thanksgiving day in general, like in your country, it's like opening the season to celebrate Christmas. smile
In my country usually only thanksgiving specifically in the countries distric a folk event because of the good rice harvest or sea harvest and is celebrated like a folk festival to honor God the creator and mother earth.

I was actually looking for The Pete Jolly trio who played "Speak Low" I like the arrangement, but instead I found Speak Low original composition played with Shorty Rogers and Pete Jolly Shelly Manne in 1961. Hmm.. cool jam session dancing good listening thumbs up

Btw, the question who will win for England VS USA,
I'm sure you've watched it laugh to be honest I actually bet on the 3 Jack lions, they are pretty solid. but their performance last Friday was not good against the USA, maybe they were tired or they took the USA lightly as a result of the match being a draw.
Compared to their experience ,technique and game prowess of the Lions' , USA is actually not match for the Lions... upss.. sorry to say uh oh

".The late Pete Jolly with Russ Freeman Jimmy Rowles Lou Levy a top West Coast pianist in the 1950s ~ check his 1963 Sweet September on U Tube. apart from excellent jazz piano on Speak Low he plays a crucial role in Shorty Rogers arrangement from 1961 . An alternating two notes on piano at 1.18 mins and 2.56 mins to Shelly Manne's alert brush work and Red Mitchell's bass line . Add Shorty's somewhat tardy playing style ~ the result ? springboard for a sprightly arrangement . Others on the session altoist Bud Shank whose style was constantly updated veering toward harder gritty tone.Vibes player Emil Richards must be mentioned. It's from Fourth Dimension an album that skirts jazz in a blithe interesting way." ... wave
