Yes - I would love to do this, if I have a supportive partner who could help out. At the moment, I travel too much to be a single guardian. I have great admiration and respect for my friends who foster hard-to-place children, and my church is also very supportive of these families.
if i knew that i would be able to take care of all my kids plus others that have no where to go .. i'd take them in a heart beat.. but such as it is.. i'm doing good to support me and my kids..
my goal is to one day have enough money to open a shelter for men, women and children with out a place to live.. now they wont stay for free.. there will be a garden and farm animals and they will have to help around with all that so they are doing something.. but they will have food, beds, clothes and access to school
I guess that would depend on what kind of area you are living in and what kind of angency you are fostering for.
I lived in at least 30 foster homes and had about 30 or 40 foster brothers and sisters that were foster kids themselves. I can only think of 2 that didn't have parents still in their life with me being one of them.
I might have to think seriously about it once I get my life squared away. I've also thought about volunteering for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program.
I was inspired by this thread yesterday, so this morning I called the local office for Big Brothers/Big Sisters and inquired. They are going to send me a package of information and an application. And they will let single men participate.
They may not be children, but do have many child like ways....I have helped many who have been down on there luck,my children have often told stories of them not recalling too many times that the spare room or sofa didn't have a occupant.....
