Tiger_Moth: Wow are you an art expert. Can you post some of yours so we can make a comparison.? Can you pick holes in this one too as it sold for $78 million dollars. photo upload sites
I could only put up a couple of squadron patches and the header of the base newspaper at Laredo AFB. Flying officers are required to have additional duties. But, of course, that wasn't the point. One assumes impressionists are supposed to have reasons for what hey portray other than their ineptitude as painters, so the painting that was originally the subject should have a reason for focusing on the arm and hand. I see none. The one you put up has from-everywhere lighting that Hollywood couldn't match. But there could be a reason for that. Maybe not.

Think about the word "impressionism" It means outside and painting on the spot as so many were ,so when dealing with oils there is no way you can rub out and correct .
I have seen a couple of Monet paintings at the Denver Art Museum in Colorado and visited the Degas Room a few times at the Metropolitan Art Museum in NYC. Here is a picture of the Degas Room at the MET which includes his ballerina statue.
