Wuld you be reffring to "I Am who Am"? That would be from Genesis, I believe -when Moses met with God on Mt Sinai , burning bush, etc?
lol maybe I'm just guessing
I was brought up Catholic, but have alot of respect for people of other beliefs. There are people who see their God in nature, or believe in Allah, or Tibetan Buddhists who believe we come from the Ground Luminosity, the Source.
I know we didn't just get here by ourselves, so we must bow to whoever made all of this happen, whatever name you want to give to this Supreme Being.
Well I agree that religion has been the root of much animosity and agony in the world. I suppose it depends on the nature and history of the tradition one chooses to follow and how fanatical they are about it that makes for the nastiness that comes out of religion.
And yet as a Spiritualist I have found balance and peace in my life for which I am grateful. I am open and appreciate others who are respectful and accepting of diversity of beliefs. I am fortunate to have learned much from friends on various spiritual paths.
being spiritual and being religous are not the same not even close if those that are religous were spiritaul then the autrousities committed in the name of religion would not be or have been committed
how can one claim that they are killing for their religion when their religion is against killing
things that make you go hhuuuummmmmm (but that is another thread)
How can anyone believe in most common religions or the bible that was written for the particular faith? With all the malevolence of the misguided people who spend time in their church only to shunt their nose at those who don’t share the same practice. I think people put way too much faith in the intangibles. Look at the wars that have been created over difference of beliefs of some divine spirit. Look at all the hypocrites that swear to their god that they will love honor and cherish each other and then have a secret affair soon after. And then they go right back into a church and vow the same crap. Religion? As I look at the way people treat each other who pride themselves in going to church there is no way I could ever believe.

You'll get no argument from me on this comment I am spiritual more than religious although I am choosing to study as much as I can about Modern Spiritualism so that I can assist others who are seeking.
It does not matter to me what path folks take. It is more important that they are asking questions and finding the answers that work for them IMO.
Roy, there are some wonderful parts of the bible and if people would focus on living the basic teachings of Jesus and scrap all the dogmatic stuff then there might not be so many problems in the word, but human nature is what it is and so the nonsense and negativity gets in the way...

Again you will get no argument from me. This is what I was thinking when I left Christianity and eventually came across Spiritualism. For me it worked but for others who knows? Discovery and continuous learning are two things that keep me on my spiritual journey. And doing the work I do as an online psychic LOL who am I to judge others? That is for them to figure out and life is usually a very adept teacher whether we like the lesson or not. All I can say is that what goes around comes around so folks usually get back what they put out there at some point. So best to be aware and accept personal responsibility for ones actions.
Ahh, looks like i gotta stand up for my fellow christians in this thread (even tho I'm buddist lol).
There will always be wars and battles fought in the name of somthing, wether its religon, freedom, or whatnot. But if you look closer you find theres always a different motive than what was put out. "Hey! Theres gold in this town of Hindu's! I wonder why we were sent here!?"
Personally I belive in Jesus's teachings because he preached about peace, not war. Most religons out there promote peace, but its the select few who mess with the real message and then end up with alot of followers who give that whole relgion a bad name, instead of the particular section of it.
Hey there Allen, I agree with you. I do know many good Christians who do their best to live what they believe. It is always a small number of fanatics that ruin the reputation for the rest who are well meaning and genuinely spiritual people. Unfortunately no faith is immune to such negativity.
As for me, I also left Christianity because I do not believe in vicarious atonement, heaven, hell or the devil as is taught in the Christian context.
So tell me what it is you like about the Buddhist tradition?
I'm just starting out, so I don't know all that much about it...just the basics..you try to lead a good life, and if all goes well, you re-incarnate into a higher life form until you hit nirvana. So if I come back as a squirrel, than I know I've been bad lol.
