anyone else finding themselves making personal cut backs in their lifestyles?......For instance using steps to use less electricity...using up what you have before purchasing more....turning the heat down a few degrees...planning trips to town...or shopping....making sure to stop in a trail so to speak...instead of jumping all around to save car gas....just a few examples....I have been depleting all my supplies instead of jumping out there to get more....just because I want a new fragrance for instance...just curious if anyone else is doing anything....if so...what?

Tank water instead of town...no cost for that...and the chemicals in the treatment of it ..yuk!!
Pushbike for local trips or the barefeet I was born with...

Car pooling to go to the bigger town..250kms round trip...can take four people and their families groceries.

Grow some of our own food...cheaper and we know what we are eating...
buying in bulk between friends and dividing it up

Entertainment is each other or the great outdoors

Flourescent bulbs that are energy efficient and only the minumum on.

recycling food scraps to compost...goes back to the garden..then onto us.

Labour exchange...bartering the old way for none or little money.

Herbal and kitchen cupboard remedies for illnesses and ailments.

I could go on and on...sorry... it is all on the choices we make as to how much we need...and how much we want.

I consciously try, altho I know I can do more...

Efficient bulbs, always turn lights off when not needed

new insulated windows, thermostat at 60 in winter, socks and sweaters, and build a fire to make the room cozy

no more shopping cart-filling trips to the discount megastores - just pick up what I need when I need it and pay a bit more to buy it from a locally owned store.

only run a full load of laundry or dishes, no partials

carpool with friends when all going to one place

conversing conversing confused conversing conversing
any other suggestions?

Like Jessie said....buying in bulk...helps alot

growing what you can

I never throw away leftover food or peelings...goes to compost or to the birds or stray animals...

Seriously thinking of buying a used or new bike...peddle kind...lol will suffice for excercise also...

Like Jesse....I barter or trade when possible

recycle alot

find myself going to Thrift stores first for what I need or want...]

then to Wally-world....try to buy on sale.....

make or buy gifts on sale

I also go to a day old bakery....and get a months supply for hardly any money and freeze it in zip-lock bags

make my own bakegoods....and soup stocks....jelly ect.

there is much more...but might be boring to others....

Good topic!=o)

Less trips to stores...

More whole foods (though sinfully guily about chocolate, and some things, heh)

I try to only use pure oil for headaches and other ailments.

Keep the heat down...

I found over the last year that aside from my few vices, I enjoy simpler..

besides my mind is always cluttered enough for everyone, hehehe

Ohhh, you like living in dangerous territory, eh? lol

hiya hon.

when I had my gardens, I used plants, and naturals to attract animals and such to take care of anybad bugs...works great! And, you get more birds, butterflies, dragonflies...
I had a toad move in that took care of all slugs. Was great=o)

thought of a few more....

recycle all glass, paper, and metals. I am down to 1 small bag of trash per week.

feed food scraps to wildlife behind my back yard - never was good at composting

have dinner parties at home rather than going out to restaurants

have neighbors and friends over for cocktails or wine rather than going out to bars

no TV in my home - less exposure to advertising

give lots of things not being used to other people who can use them

collect those little hotel shampoos and soaps and lotions and give them to homeless shelters

take the time to envision how much I would use somthing before purchasing it, usually results in passing it by

my weaknesses are new fishing gear (I don't need it, but I think it will help me catch bigger fish) and magazines which I order and then never read

frustrated

A few of us look for items for one another...that saves time and energy...kinda neat.....

my weakness....if it is one...is buying the expensive shampoos...I can't seem to use the cheaper ones....cause too much problems...perhaps I'm allergic

I forgot about the one that pisses some people off...I keep everyones packets of stuff they didn't use from fast food...get home and sort it...so the fridge looks like I've robbed a fast food condiments bar at times...but they were handy for trips, picnics...college lunches ect. cheap cheap cheapblushing

LOL

My mom likes to get the little sweetner packets and put them in her purse! rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing I laugh, until I am in a hotel room drinking a cup of coffee and really wish I had a Splenda. tongue

There is one thing I think is a 'sin', and I see it a lot in my work. When hotels do banquets, or even buffet meals for small groups, the amount of food is OBSCENE! I always ask what they will do with the food that goes untouched (usually >50% of it!) - it's really sad when the fear of litigation prevents establishments from giving this perfectly good food to other people who really need or want it!!!frustrated
