Do you feel that the US citizen aren't openminded?I have some discussion with american collegues but it seem that they don't know alot about others courntries and cultures. So I just wanna know why the world looks so "far and strange" for the americans. I don't wanna build my opinion on my closed experiences, that why i ask here if people considere that american are open to other civilisations and societies...

Funny to read that joliblak, I have had an example of stupid thoughts...

Last time, I spoke with friends about USA because of my soon departure, and few of them said that Americans don't know where are some of European Countries...
Silly French friends...
You would know what I did answer to them?

"Is here one among you my friends who is able to situate all American States???"

A silence took place for about 2 minutes...

World is huge and people from other Countries have their own history and lives, but just to know that they are existing is the first step for opening our mind.
Considering all several languages, it will take a whole life to understand and know each Country and how people from these Countries are living in.

Then it is not really a question of US citizens only, it is one which is concerning all people over the world...A question of interest or not to that topic.

as I said I can't have a definitive opinion about that. but it seem that my friends(I deeply hope that they are not representative of the majority) don't know a lot about "le monde"...
What the kids learn to school about the foreign countries? I'm just asking...

Have a hard enough time knowing my neighbors. America is a melting pot of cultures and my neighbors are each unique. Have to tread
will carefully not to step on their feet. God bless the Canadians!

I'm agree with you in a way...it's not a question of citizenship, okay. But I think that your question to your friends was a kind of traquenard. It could be the same silence if you asked them to give you the list of the french departements, even they are french...question of memory. But my question about the US is how they feel about the foreign cultures...In france you know that better than me, people know pretty much about US...Sometimes without making the choice (movies,news,politics...)
But here I feel like people aren't "interested" about culture...So I wanna know the part belong to cultural studies in school programs...

My name is Paws. I am Canadian and I think the Saskatchewan seal hunt should be stopped.
