It depends on the people, the reasons, where they from, and where they going. Also.... people have been moving around the planet since the beginning of time..... the migrations, and evolvement of mankind?

This could end up quite a Thread, if looked at from specific points of view! .. with a lot of arguments too!

Ja- ich denke, auch einmal in anderen Ländern zu leben oder zumindest sie für einige Zeit kennenzulernen.......ist immer eine Bereicherung und hilft sicher, Andere besser zuverstehen.....und auch zu tolerieren......

I think it would be a better place if people could move around, that way you can learn new culture's and maybe that way we could understand one another better....

Hmmmm, so let’s say a strict Muslim or Christian community moved right next door to you and then starting imposing their cultural values on you - would that be good?

Uh huh. But you see, no matter how many cultures you try to encompass there is always someone at the very edge of society, someone who is or feels left out – on the outside looking in. They cannot get to grasps with the culture of their adoptive country and will try to make things happen or change just so that they can feel at home away from home.

Also, there are instances were certain peoples’ beliefs might clash head on with the culture of an adoptive country. So who has to give in then? Does anyone have to give in?

u pose a question i think that at the moment as the world is there is no solution except in the form of violence and that is no answere in the short or long term what do u think should be done .... maybe 1 idea would be to disperse these people in small communities and not to allow gehtos to form

No matter how thin you slice it, it is still salami.

Ghettos will always find a way to form.

On the whole it is not an easy subject to discuss without touching raw nerves.

Cultural integration depends on how far people are prepared to allow it to go unhindered.

Declare ourselves what exactly?

What makes a culture superior to another? Blinkered, fanatical zeal? The ones who thump their chest and growl the loudest win?

And what is it that you’re smoking anyway?

Immigration is a great thing. I personally have lived in Middle East for 6 years and I loved every day there. It was in Dubai, UAE, and no one was trying to impose their culture on me...and there you find lots of cultures..over 150 nationalities..imagine what colorful place it is. Of course there were sonme rules you have to follow, but nothing bad in it...you go to your friends place and you don't put your feet on the table just because you like to do it at home. It is the same with following the rules of a country or culture.

Immigration could be considered negative when some people who have forgotten where they are coming from, come to your country and try to impose their religion, culture, habits, etc.
I still do not understand why muslim women in France want to go to school with scarves covering their heads, insist on changing the law and at the same time western women in Saudi Arabia can go on the street only fully covered same as the arabs. At least if you want something for yourself you should be ready to give the same to the others.

Again there is a simple answer to this one. A very famous saying "When in Rome do as the Romans do"
And I believe if you can't follow this saying stay where you are.
I moved from Canada to Belgium. I didn't know the language but I learned it well enough that some people don't realize that I am not from Belgium. I even believe that I grasp 99% of the language better than most people that live here.
I also know people who come from other countries that have lived here for 13 years that do not even understand 1 word. My advice to them is go back home to your own country and enjoy your life there. If you don't want to become part of the country you moved to stay in your own country it's that simple.
If you are forced to leave your own country for any reason you should be pleased to be able to go to a better country so force yourself to be as good of a citizen as you can of your new country.handshake
