The short answer: because CS is a step in the right direction.
The long answer: there actually is an online dating industry journal, and when some dating service gets into trouble (which is not at all a rare occurrence), that editor pulls no punches is giving his assessment of it. Lately, he found out fewer people are joining online dating services... apparently the industry is losing its battle to keep the lid on the horror stories, with the result that a lot of singles are now thinking twice about joining an online dating service.
This made me do some very heavy thinking. The problem, I think, is too many people have abused online dating, and the system itself is often abusive. It's a lose-lose situation. No wonder online dating is getting less popular in the US---I wouldn't join an online dating service nowadays either!
Now along comes CS. Here is a site which shows me that some of us singles have learned our lessons about what might work versus what definitely won't work, and we're in a position to do something about it. No commercialism is allowed by posters to forums, and there is a postal code locator feature. Heck, about the only change I'd request to the CS rules would be that the flat-out ban on ALL advertising should allow an exception to be made for noncommercial personal profile sites, aka mate-search sites.
I really, honestly think of CS as something very like a box of Band-Aids for fixing the hurts done to us by the commercial dating service industry... personally, I'd like to see CS grow from a box of Band-Aids into a nice, fully-equipped ambulance specializing in the treatment of broken hearts. Maybe then, the people who operate dating services will become the ones who think twice.
CS has no borders and very relaxed boundaries..It is not just a good dating site, it is a school, a playground and an amusemrnt park, all rolled into one!!
I think CS is a good thing because this is the way a dating site is supposed to be. They are supposed to give you the opportunity to interact with the other singles on the site with more than just email. It is also good for those of us who are shy as we can ease into the dating scene better and we have a better chance of having success as people will get to know us.
For me, it gave me the chance I would not have had on any other dating site. It gave me the chance at true love finding me...and it did...
well....heres my testify moment i met my lady online and weve been together for almost a year and a half....we live five hours and an international border apart but we see each other on average of at least every 2 weeks..sometimes more

I agree with everyone so far, CS is great! I would neve have joined a pay for dating service, and this has been a great way to meet people, not just my sweetie.
All my girlfriends are unhappily married, couldn't get hookups outta them and they can't go out either. The church I go to is so small, there's one single guy, he's a college professor and lives with his mother for chrissake, so forget about that! Where I work is a real urban area, and I'm about as rural as they get, so weren't too many prospects there, besides, I don't go out with co-workers and flirting with customers might be frowned on a bit!
Soooo, I came here one day when I was bored outta my gourd, took a coupla crappy pics of myself, lurked around a while, and got comfortable enough to start posting, and here I am now, three sheets to the wind in love, and loving every one of you that I've met here. Life's grand, and so is CS. I don't know if it's the mods keeping things under control, or if it's just the type of people who come to a site like this, but almost everyone here are good people, the ones that aren't, well they're easy enough to ignore. To whoever came up with the idea of this site, TY TY TY!!! Luv ya bunches!
