Breaking a cycle is taking a risk. Most people like to only take calculated risks. They weigh things up and view the risks mentally before acting. Hence they tend to do the same thing all the the time with the simplest of tasks.
These tests are done on things like how one goes through their day or does the dishes.
Yet we as individuals have taught ourselves that this is the most efficient way to do things.
Routine allows you to plan your day and you can plan a risk period in your day.
E.g. 4pm - 5pm is free. It comes between collecting kids from school and cooking evening meal. You can go for a run or go have a beer. Or just sunbathe in the coustyard.
It’s also a matter of having gotten it down to a science.
I mean, once you’ve figured out an efficient way to do something why go back to trial and error again?
There’s a huge difference between mindlessly falling into a boring rut, and purposefully honing your efficiency.
If you’re doing the former perhaps you should think about a change. If you’re doing the latter why change? You found a system that works well, it’s not a rut, it’s ‘being efficient’.
I eat at only a very select few restaurants in my town. Three to be exact, even though there are several dozen restaurants around. The fact of the matter is that I enjoy their food. They’re consistent and I always enjoy my meal. Why break the cycle to go off and try things that I may not like? In fact, in my case I can pretty much guarantee that I won’t like them because having tried them in the past and being disappointed it how I honed myself down to the three that I now use.
In other words, my ‘cycle’ isn’t a ‘rut’, but rather it’s the end result of efficiency honing.
i do have a routine for many things because it's easier to do a lot of practical things. However, sometimes we need to change our daily activities, so we can enjoy more diversity and avoid boredom.
I have daily routines that can not be broken. My son is my foreman.
I am guilty...I park in the same row at Walmart in the same spot.
I like to be further away cause I don't want to get door dinged, and Im by the cart corel.
Soon I find myself bored with the daily grind...So I do park on the other side (and can't find my car)...I take a different road home (then discover its full of pot holes)....decide to eat breakfast for once(and forget the toast in the toaster).
I would never choose to live my life like a machine. Abra is correct in the things that are fine tuned and work, keep them. The rest of it I mix it up. I am also conscious of going new places and not keeping a specific time schedule of stops. I guess that is the law enforcement side of me. Being too predictable can lead to other possibilities rather unpleasant for single women.
I vote "Break the Cycle" look around and every day try something new you never know where or who it will take you to.
