does your state government support the unions?

I've heard alot lately about the powers that be trying to convert Michigan to a 'Right to work state'. bqasically eliminating Union work force altogether.

Hows your state doing economically from your perspective?conversing

I’ve worked in both union and non-union environments.

I much prefer working in a non-union environment.

Seems like the non-union companies always treated their employees with more respect.

In fact, it got to the point that if I found out a company was a union company I wouldn’t even bother putting in an application. I ended up just seeking out non-union companies to work for.

dunno

Just my own personal experience.

Sad to say, but the more unions disappear, so does the right to earn a decent living.

The unions are doing ok here for the time being.

Yeah i have many friends who are loyal to the unions auto workers and carpenters.

I can see carpenters with having say over payscale thats a trade you can only master with time, whereas, those press operators and assembley folk getting 22.00 an hour is just plain bizarre. Think of the other wages paid for other non-skilled general labor work force personnel. don't even ask me what a hi-lo or forklift operator gets paid..conversing

I always made higher wages and better benefits working for non-union companies. So you'd be hard pressed to sell me on your premise.

I’m sure there are places where unions are needed though. I'm certainly not against them. I just don’t want to work in a union environment. At least I never liked the ones I did work in. Just not my style of living I guess.

I think that the labor laws that are in place now, along with a relative cornucopia of job opportunities negate the need for a Union. Paying a Labor Union to represent ME in negotiations is apprehensible. I know what to expect and when to expect it. I expect to EARN my wages, and I expect you to earn yours. Bottom line. Too many laggards are getting over on the system by the "protection"...sic..."bullying" of Labor Unions. In my opinion, it's not much different than organized crime.

Union has it's perks, and it also has it breaks.
Here in Oklahoma, I think we made it right to work.
My late husband was union, was great for awhile. Then they let "the teamsters" in and the place closed up. My husband worked there for 15 years. He was diesel mech.. He worked for LEE WAY Trucking.

I was a union member at one of my jobs. It was a joke. All they did was take my money and play like they were good for something.

My youngest son is a union member at Conoco Phillips. It very well could be that it could be a good thing there. But, I believe that union wages hurt us in the long run. Someone has to pick up the tab for such high wages.

UNIONS=FAIRNESS & COMMITMENT

A dedicated comitted worker deserves the dedication & commitment from their employer.

When someone agrees to work for a company it is a commitment, or if you will a contract.

In this contract the worker promises to work according to the companies descrepancies. In turn, the company promises a quoted projected wage, retirement plan, and health bennifits. This is a commitment to each other.

Without unions employers can alter this contract to solely bennifit the company and not its workers. Such as lowering wages, compromising worker's bennifets and retirement, or even take away all bennifets or terminate employement without reason, or without change in worker's performance.

This contract should be 50/50...and not allow one side to renogicate after the agreement is made.

That's what happened here to Lee Way. They had a great union in place. They really went the extra mile.
Then Teamsters came in and made all these promises. Their demands were so outrageous that the place closed down in less than 6 months. This was not a small place either.

This sounds good in theory, but I think it misses the point.

Companies originally started with the idea of manufacturers and merchants making a profit. NOT with the idea of providing jobs for a community.

When did it become a company’s responsibility to provide jobs to a community?

People act like companies have an obligation to the workers, but they really don’t at all (other than providing a safe work environment)

People are always free to quit and go somewhere else anytime they so choose.

The companies don’t ‘owe’ the people anything.

I think its a totally wrong attitude to think that they do.
