I am reading a book at the moment called "The Outsider" by Colind Wilson and i found a lot of myself in it. The book is about various known people who have been in a way "outsiders" whether they are artists, writers, painters,...different. They are the outsiders in a way that they do not belong to the "mainstream" current and most of them endede up tragically because theyn could not reconcile their inner energies with the demands of their mainstream cultural norms and expectations. I am wandering how many outsiders are outthere? I am certainly one of them and I do wish to find the way out and get "in" or get that "in" out...anyway its all about the people who do not follow the trends but have a deeper insight into life so...let's talk about it....

Hello Servantes,

my welcome present for the non mainstream:
are you Swiss Italien then you can read also spanish right ?

Its not fun because the Outsiders are torchured souls. They become outsiders against their will and have maybe deeper insights into life. They can't really be part of the "mainstream" but they reach the point when everything becomes meaningless-they find themselves merely existing. Its not fun to be in that state of being or more precisely non-being as Sartre would put it.

Look at it from another way.

Would you join the mainstream? The flow of prevalent thought irrespective of what it really is? Do you really feel the need to be a part of society?

Sometimes it's good to be on the outside looking in rather than being locked in.

I like this one better ...

If you are lonely when you're alone, you are in bad company.

In a way yes I would like to be part of the mainstream but that's impossible. being an anthropologist and migrating from country to country I have always been an Outsider. Sometimes I envy those people who live from today to tomorrow have their family BBQ-s, circle of friends, kids and what not. But again, no thanks I prefer to be outside but I have to find the meaning again. This book really opened my eyes to my current condition (at least I can put the finger on it and see that its happening to others too.

crying dunno why you are complaining then ..
write a book too - make the experience worthwile - enjoy what you are doing - mingle with people you can relate to - have friends who are different does not mean you differ - and last not least - dont take everything so seriouse wink much less yourself grin

Do you think I am not trying (or am I?) or would not like that...but we are talking here about the existentialist crisis and when crisis is in question it is a crisis and that means its not just to do things..because part of the crisis is not doing them..as far as book..that's exactly why I am in Switzerland at the moment.

Its the knowledge of the depths of human nature and the naked existence that paralyses and negates the human mind...I guess that's where the outsider comes in or remains out..
