Just because your single with a child does not mean you have the plague. But it doesn't make you extra special either.

If you were popular with the males before your marriage. Your still be popular now.

If not I'm sure you know the reason why and it is not your children.

I've been wondering that too. Or maybe its a case of being more choosy as to who I get involved with. The plan of settling down, marriage, then kids all went out the window. Yeah sure there are guys out there who are happy to get with a single mum - why? A one night stand, no ties, just give her a good night - like she's gagging for it. I do not mean to offend anyone! I'm just speaking from my own experience. To find someone who is genuinely interested in me as a person . . . . . .

Truthfully for me the child woudlhave to be very young . About 3 maximum. Why? So that i became the childs dad. No hung up or hassles. Don't want to be played off against the biological father.I have observed and experienced that the kids resent you (justifiably in their eyes, the interloper on mum's affections. So preferrably no kids..Sorrydunno

Hi,
I'm a single mum of two littlies and have been single for nearly three years and it seems there is little opportunity for a woman in my situation. I'm a self employed funloving woman that by chance happens to be single and a mum. It's not a disease we are just as loving if not more.

I bow down to all you sinlge mums, its a hard job, I too am a single dad to a nearly 4 year old, and its not a easy job, but getting there, and its a comfort to know all you mums out there are in the same boat. as least your kids will know, they have a lovin parent that wont leave them high and dry.
just a little bit of news, us mere single dad's make about 18% of single dads in oz. we are getting there....

Hey smile, if i was on your doorstep i would come riding in to sweep you off your feet and do whateva to make your burden easier.

Well in spirit. First i would come knockin with cap in hand and find out if you were interested in dating.

No matter how much we think we are the only one, there are always others in similar situations. How compatible they are will depend on how much they have learnt to communicate and how much they have learnt from past experiences.

I agree with the stepfather piece in the other post. We have to try to be a kids friend. We can't be their new parent. Even if you do marry there is still only one parent. One person who does the disciplining and sets the rules for the child to abide by. The other has to sit back be a friend to both the child and the parent. Abide by the rules themselves and not be seen to take sides.

A good step Parent has a tight rope to walk. And will only be successful if they are open and good communicators. They can't sulk or pack huffs. But that means the parent has to realise that the step Parent is a baby sitter with fringe benefits. And the better the Fringe Benefits the better they should be as babysitters come child minders.

You wouldn't come home and expect a babysitter to have hurt your child in anyway. And you wouldn't hand your child over to a paid child care or institution and expect to get it back crying it eyes out or bruised or battered from that institution.

The good step Parent is in the same situation. They have no rights except to keep themselves safe. And the child to be kept away from harm. So the step Parent really has to like kids and play with them constantly no matter what age the child. They have to as stated be able to communicate openly with both Parent and child at each persons level.
