It seems to me that the British Servicemen (and woman) give up far too easily and agreed with everything that Iran said. I have to take their statements that they acted under duress with a grain of salt. Now, back home, the story has changed: they thought they were going to be shot, etc. And then the whole thing looses any shred of credibility when they fall over each other trying to sell their stories to the media. Sad day for a once invincible empire,
It seems that "money making media" is not just an American tradition anymore. I'm sure somehow this too will be the fault of the American government... Whatever.
I must say that I have a different opinion and that I believe that my love for the world is stronger than the doubt that is delivered here. I have a long line of ancestory in england , whales , Ireland. I have seen the media manipulate words, actions and it is not always with what they say, sometimes it is with what is not said. Bettis

How dare you judge people who have been through the mind games that they have at the hands of people who have manipulated the truth in an evil way before now many times. If you know all the facts you would know that the story sold was so the money could be shared with the others. Not that I entirely agree with that, but it does not diminish what happened to them. I wonder how many of us put in the situation they were would not doubt themselves and crumble. Are you someone that also doubts such things as the houlocaust?

please can i say something, im a british sailor and have 2 very food friends who were taking in iran, and personally know other members of that team, im taking great dissapointment in these comments, mostly from USA, why? after 9/11, the ship i am serving on now deployed to afghanistan, in support of the americans, there is british marines and sailors, soldiers dying every day out in iraq and afghanistan and iraq, and i dont think its a way to pay respect to them, we helped america, in iraq and afghanistan, so please dont be little our 15 who were captured, they never gave up easy, they were following rules of engagement, something the american tankbuster planes have yet to master, i am deeply upset now beacuse of these comments, as you can see in the my picture, i was doing board/search operations in the gulf, another 7 months spent away from family, britain and america should be proud of what we are doing there, i know i am!!
can't we all jsut get along??? i personally am proud and thankful for all the soldiers form all over the world fgithting for EVERYONE'S freedom thank you royalnavy, my son just got back from iraq not long ago and a dear friend also, they aren't over there for fun people just be thankful we have them and Pray for thier safe return.
I don't think the British gave up easily. I am curious why you might think that? Also, what do you recommend they have done instead of resolve it peacefully? Start another war?

thank you, someone who has some sence, ive not long came back from iraq, and i was doing exzctly what the 15 guys were doing, and its not easy, they were just following rules of engagement... do not fire unless fire upon, no one wants another war, personally, id like to go home for more than 6 weeks this year, i think uk and usa armed forces are doing a great job, and we deserve a little bit more respect from people!
Look I didn't insult the entire country not did I insult your armed forces. All I said was that the story of the Sailors and Marines changed dramatically from when they were in Iran versus when they got home. There's no excuse for serving soldiers trying to sell their stories. I see that the MOD, to their credit, has blocked this now.

thank you! im not saying you insullted us, but, the MOD have blocked it which is the correct thing to do, they shouldnt be able to sell there stories, but remember, the british armed forces isnt well paid, so who can blame them in trying to make a extra buck or two!
I am all for peaceful resolution. I have posted about this elsewhere. I just think the whole thing doesn't reflect well on us. Here's something from a British newspaper. He puts it much better than I could:
"Members of Her Majesty's armed forces captured by a hostile power readily collaborate in an enemy propaganda exercise. Once released, they announce that they were lying at their captors' bidding, but were entitled to do so because they were subjected to pressure. Their superiors applaud their behaviour, and, at first, their government encourages them to sell their stories. Their country's most popular newspapers and one of its public service broadcasters quickly stump up the cash. An eager nation shares its military victims' pain."
