I always thought they detracted from the body.
Having said that, my son had a Canadian Flag tattooed at the top his left arm with the words Made in Canada underneath it.
My daughter, Natasha, had her husband's name tattooed the finger where she wears her wedding band.
I have seen many many tattoos and none have been particularly appealing but the ugliest of all was on a woman I once spent some time with. She had her first lover's intials tattooed (3 one inch high letters) at the top of her left breast. That (not the breast) made me look. That really turned me off of tattoos.
