The tricky thing about that is, many times one or both start to develop certain 'feelings' for the other...that's why it's so important to have open communication in order to have an understanding of what this kind of relationship actually is, or could become...
In my opinion, it is a bad idea IF there is not clear communication regarding consequences, expectations, outcome, etc.
Having said that...I say do what makes you happy!

I personally would not suggest a FWB and/or a f**k buddy type relationship. It can prove very, very difficult for one, or both, parties involved. There is usually one that falls for the other and gets their heart broken. I have seen best friends ruin their friendship because they crossed that line. Once it is crossed, you can never go back. It changes everything. I would suggest you count the cost and see if the price is more than you are willing to pay. I know that people have these type relationships, but it is not for everyone. You should think about how it would make you, or the Friend feel later if, and when, the other starts seeing/dating/sleeping with someone else. Just my opinion.
