Hello.I would like to know how others would deal with dating someone who you find out has an eating disorder.I used to have a boyfriend who thought he was fat and began starving himself, the physical transformation was astonishing and painful see,as the changes in his personality,I wasn't able to really help him,and he got mad at me about something and broke up with me but I saw him earlier this year and he seemed to be healthy again and eating and we got along, though he was still much, much thinner than he used to be,but that's okay,I'm just wondering how others would deal with a similar situation?

i would deal with it the way i would deal with any illness a loved one was going through. support them, help them seek medical advice, and be there for them.

That would be a tough one. I thought anorexia in men was somewhat unusual. My guess is that he probably needs to work on his emotional problems big time. It's probably a job that only he and healthcare people can work with together. It's serious and deadly. These problems he has are within himself. I would be wary of trying to 'fix' him. That he knows you care and have prayers for him I'm sure
would be helpful.
Best Wishes

Dealing with someone who has a serious eating disorder can be heartbreaking at times. sigh It affects men, women, children...and is no respector of persons. Unless the person really wants help and obtains it, it can end in a devastation for all involved. It not only affects the person with the disorder but everyone involved in their life as well. Good luck with your friend and I wish him, as well as you, the very best. hug

That must have been difficult for both. When you love someone you try to help them.

what ever you decide do it openly. Don't do something behind his back because you think it will help and is best for everyone.

You may be right, but you would be creating more mistrust and disharmony.

Do it openly and how he reacts should tell you exactly how he feels about you and himself. Those who want help will accept help; Sometimes willingly, Sometimes after some special type of encouragement.
Those that don't want to seek help and admit to themselves they have a problem, will push everyone away until they hit Rock Bottom. Then Who knows.

Good luck to you. My prayers are with you.
