What's wrong with your car?

If I can I will try to diagnose your ailment over the thread. I am pretty good with mechanical things, and do have some training, but all advice is use at your own risk!

Just for fun and to try and help.

kunking sound from under the front end. Its like someone stuffed something under there and as the tires turn .... it kind of sounds like a thumbing. As I speed up - so does the thumping.

dunno

sounds like drivetrain trouble, and I would start at the tires. What condition are they in, a balance problem or a separated tread will do just that.

We used to tape a rag to the driveshaft on the bosses truck and it would make that type of sound when he drove it...it nearly drove him crazy...

there is no resevoir per se. the a/c system is a closed loop with some of the fluid in liquid state and some in vapor state. If it has lost its zip, it may have leaked out and will have to be pressure tested to determine the leak.

once the leak is found and fixed the system is recharged and resealed and away you go.

yes it does sound like you know your way around the 4 wheeled headache. But a/c is a different animal. It is a pressurized system. They likely had to open the system to replace the engine, as the piping is usually pretty tight in there. When the piping is reconnected if it is airtight, then just a system recharge should restore nice cool air for you. still probably $75.00 to get it recharged.

Where did you learn so much about cars?

thumbs up

The plastic will either be the coolant overflow tank/resevoir or the washer fluid resevoir. The cap should let you know...maybe clean it off! They do get dirty under there.

God - i hope its not a drive train thing.

The tires are still fairly new - bought them in Nov after the first snow fall. Still lots of tread wear - coudl I go out on a limp and maybe think a tie-rod or bearings? dunno

Bearings tend to squeal when they are wearing, sounds like a tie-rod or perhaps a ball-joint. If you can, jack one front wheel up and grab it with both hands in front of you on the left and right side of the tire. Try to wiggle it from front to back. If there is play there, that's tie rod play.

Now grab the wheel top and bottom. try to wiggle fore and aft. Any play there is ball-joint play. these tests should let you know whick components are wearing.

If the wheel is out of balance it tends to amplify the effect of the noise you hear too.

PS Kal-tire or Midas or most places will inspect that stuff for free too.

If there is an oil leak somewhere... not a big one.. big .. over night it will be noticeable.. But parked at the mall it isnt... Will this affect my truck?? By this I mean ... Will it stall??
As well as My Antilock Break sign is on.. and I guess the emergbreak light as well.. .. and this I dont know why... what could this mean???

I just bought a 91 Explorer.. Im trying to fix it up myself.. Im sending it in for minor bodywork tomorrow as well as a muffler and pre safety..

haha.. So ..I paid 900 for it..and that alone is how much the tires are worth so I thought it was worth it..

Oh and the truck smells when Im driving..and no Im not letting gas out.
