Here Here. Most American films are crap. 80% of American produced Films aren't seen by Joe Public until they hit Video. How does that make them great.
Secondly how good a film does, will depend on the characters and the producers. Not the film company releasing it. So you should really alter your statement. It is to generalised therefore too controversial.
Don't confuse awesome effects with quality cinema. I see the Hollywood propaganda machine works on foreigners too. It's all crap.
Pretty soon they won't even need actors. It will all be done on computer. That's the day I stop watching cinema. I can get cheap and cheezy on the SciFi Channel.
you beat me to it. Most of the films that make it out to the masses are simply electronic time eating babysitters. I tend to enjoy things not so american... but I'm a goofey bunny, aren't I?

what about all the steven speilberg films michael more films brigit jones diary films alfred hitcock films ( yes oh yes ..yes oh yes ..yes ooohh yes every great british filmmaker to ever was had to leave the country to get their films made )! because of the small minded mentality of the british film industry apart from that nonsense chariot of fire
British movies are really really crap! Every British film has the same bunch of actors doing the same roles but just re-hashed and they are always chick flicks!

Hitchcock was, in his time, the highest paid director in England and had a vibrant career there before he went to the States to direct Rebecca. The Bridget Jones movies...british directors on both of them, shot in England, British script. Spielberg has done good work and there are good directors in the US (I did say generally you know!)and some very good movies are made with American money behind them. Believe me there were weeks when 12 new films opened and closed in a weekend and all of them were s***.
See now you start to echo my response. Forget about who is releasing the movie they are irrelavant.
Look at who starred in it. Who Directed it, and who wrote it. Were they american.
Ben Elton may come across American with his slapstick but he is all English. Hugh Laurie Rowan Atkinson Monty Python the youg ones and then we enter the classic and the serious actors.
The only thing your lacking is an action hero. But then England never did that type of role. James Bond was more sedate more realistic and believable.
Steven Speilberg has done some great movies yes. But he is one director out of hundreds directing movies hoping to make a buck.
Check out the movies now. How many now contain computer generated scenes to being completely computer generated. The percentage is rising yearly.
Case in point about the new Disney movie coming out. "Bridge to tirabithia" Original story is written by an english Woman. The movie looks like it is only going to vaguely follow the book. And it will be predominately computer generated.

Yes, made with US money doesn't mean it's an 'American' movie.
What about The Full Monty, Billy Elliot, Calendar Girls the Harry Potter flicks? Goodstories, great tech work, fine acting and directing. And I liked Love Actually & Johnny English.
