everyomne on of those issues discussed deal with the economy of a country or region or world.... ask who will be the first to sacrifice their nations economic growth ..... come on international forum surely theres a country that will step up and say take my citizens liviihood.
if I understand you right .. then there is nothing new about this. In the US in the late 1960s, international competition and a fear of losing social status transformed Rooseveltian leftwing populism--optimistic, victorious, and egalitarian, with the aspirations for a better life--into a rightwing populism that exploited electors' fear of being overtaken by those who were even poorer.
I agree with some of the things you said but I don't think it's true for "most Americans". I'm sure you're smarter than the average person and consequently you surround yourself with similar people. It's the same when I go to work. Most people are fairly educated and somewhat interested and informed about what's going on in the world. Then you go to the store and meet a completely different crowd.
Whatever the percentage, an overproportional number of Americans are very poorly informed and are not interested in news or politics. You really have to dig deep into different medias to get the whole stories and while some do most don't. I know from experience that you get much better (important) news coverage in Europe just by turning on your TV. It's very filtered here. There seems to be a general trend not to get people upset and keep them calm and happy. At the same time certain "news" is exaggerated to get a "wow factor" and keep people tuning in. Like anything else it's capitalized.
Hell, if you can keep it. "There is a story, often told, that upon exiting the Constitutional Convention Benjamin Franklin was approached by a group of citizens asking what sort of government the delegates had created. His answer was: "A republic, if you can keep it."
Neo-cons are now quoting this to suggest that Mr. Bush gave the Iraqis a republic, but they just could not keep it. It would be more accurate to say that Mr. Bush gave them hell, if they can keep it.
