The history of the troubles that haunt Northern Ireland are not due to any one particular incident but rather a series of incidents beginning back when the island of Ireland was conquered by the Anglo-Normans troops in the late 12th century. English rulers then tried to colonize the island by any means possible, making enemies out of the Irish. Throughout history England has ruled Ireland. A drastic change took place in 1921, when the country was divided. Northern Ireland remained part of the UK, while the remainder of the country became the Republic of Ireland.
belle gives a very brief history to it, commerce, religion...potato blight......all have a great part in the troubles.....a google search will be alot more informative though
Reading a book is definatly a good idea, but I think this man was just trying to stimulate some good conversation.
I've heard a lot of different explinations as to why there is conflict. the middle east, as well, is perplexing much the same way.
I don't think we can ever actually know the real answer in our lifetime. History, as it's taught to our childrens children, will reflect what happened.
In my lifetime, things have gotten better. I remember hearing stories in NY when I was a kid in the 80's and it wasn't so peacful.
palestine goes back yonks in history but the british didn't help matters much when they divided palestine in 1949 and created the modern day isreal, it needed doing I guess but......certainly created alot more problems than it solved..........but again google it to read fully
the problems started before the british left palestine when there was a treaty between the uk and the un that let european jews live in palestine back in the 1930s
