I am a smoker, and I do feel for none smokers really, but this new ban has ruined nights out for me! I don't feel I can go to a club or pub any more!!

I liked to have a drink, and a ciggy in comfort, and not stand outside!

Do you think this ban is going to affect the takings of these clubs and pubs?smoking smoking smoking

i don't think the ban will affect the takings hugely, it may even boost the takings!
if you smoke you can either stay at home or go out and not smoke inside the pubs. but most places now have outdoor seating to accomodate smokers, though i can't imagin it being much fun in the winter!

I totally agree with you Karen, going out is never going to be the same,I've worked in the catering and publican trade most of my working life, and watched a news report about the effect the ban ahd in Scotland where its been going for the past year I believe and sales in pubs are down 11%,which has mean't a loss of jobs in some places,so it will be interesting to see what effect this ban will have in england.very mad very mad

yes but the huge upside which outweighs any of this is that people now won't get ill from passive smoking as much!

I understand that, but almost everyone smoked years ago, I remember being able to smoke in cinemas when I was a kid (not me, you understand, my mum!)

Why not just make all the non-smokers go outside if they are so keen on fresh air anyway! confused

Here they couldn't because that would mean that the staff would have to go in there and collect empty glasses, and they would still be exposed to the smoke...

laugh Long ago,
when they had first passed The NO SMOKING BAN in The Pacific North West, some goverment peole stopped for lunch at a Smokey Little Back Woods Cafe in Northern Washington State... confused

As soon as these guy's entered the establishment they noticed that everyone was SMOKING an the place was filled with Hunters...cheers

So onne of them got everyone attention and informed everyone that SMOKING indoors was BANNED because of second hand smoke and limited ventilation!!!innocent

At which pint The Hunters hoisted their guns and proceeded in blasting out all the windows of the cafe...jaw drop

Throughout all of this there was one lone Sherrif sitting at the bar, so The Government people asked him if he was going to do anything about all that had gone on...

To which The Sherrif replied, there is No Violation, this is Now an Open Air Cafe...frustrated

Later they imposed Smoking Sections...

I empathize but I think freedom of choice works in both directions. Non smokers used to have no choice about breathing in smoke and going home smelling like ashtrays. However I don't see why there cannot be smoking clubs to cater for smokers, theoretically they could hire staff who were smokers also...why is it always all or nothing?

I think the rights of non-smokers trump your rights. After all it's you that's doing something unnatural that's harmful not only to yourself but anyone within hundreds of feet. In every country/State that this had been tried the actual numbers have gone up because people now feel they can go out and not comeback stinking of stale smoke.

Go get your fresh air outside then dude, and stop the discrimination against smokers!!! HAHA!! If they want to make smoking a thing of the past, they should outlaw it...Not the people that smoke...Remember...I am now a NON-SMOKER. The cigarette companies are the bad guys they should be held accountable...Cigarettes are the #1 most addictive drug in the world, and they have done nothing to stop it. Money is why they are still around...Make cigarettes an illegal drug like cocaine and I bet you alot of people would quit.

Remember I am now a non-smoker, but I remain behind my smoking brethern...You deserve a better deal.

Thanks Bob!!!

The governments are happy to take the taxes of smokers, and yes, i know that most of that goes on healthcare for smokers, but we are now being discriminated against! They are happy to sell us the cigarettes, but not to let us smoke them. I am sure that the bars we will no longer be aloud to smoke in will still have highly overpriced cigarette machines for smokers to use too.

At least give us separate smoking bars, and give us the choice!!

It sounds wrong to all non-smokers, i know, but it is like going to a cinema and being told you cant eat popcorn, or going to a football game and being told you cant have a hot dog. A night out for me included cigarettes and alcohol, and it has all changed now!smoking

And dont even bother with the "popcorn and hot dogs wont kill you" argument!!! Have you never had a bit of popcorn stuck at the back of your throat! cough cough!!!!wink

.. Actually, come to think about it.... going outside for a smoke, is where you usually find all the interesting folk.....! .. and its a nice place to hang out and chat. Here in CH, in the middle of winter, standing in the snow outside puffing away, all smokers are drawn to each other, in mutual sympathy? and we get to know each other, much easier than trying to chat inside to non-smoking "strangers"!dancing

And also, most band players smoke, so they take their breaks outdoors too, and so, you get to meet the band....dancing cheers and place your requests first hand... so you can enjoy when you go back inside.
