I have a bassett hound that's almost 5 yrs old. Suzy Diane. Her maternal instincts are awesome, although she's never had pups. She's helped mother crap-loads of kittens, pups my daughter has drug home, baby rabbits, and a baby squirrel named Chance that lived with us for about 5 mths until he drowned in the kids' swimming pool. (sad)
The thing about her that pisses me off...when the kids leave, she'll jump up in the window and whine and howl like she's being killed.
She's an awesome watch dog. She's NOT fond of men AT ALL!! You wouldn't think someone would be afraid of a bassett, but many have been of her. She's never bitten anyone yet. I'd be more worried once she quit barking and growling, that she'd lick ya to death! I've never had to worry about someone walking up on our porch and trying to break in, as she can hear the neighbors a block away get home and she raises hell.

Ohhh poor Alex...she dosn't know who's the pet and whos the owner...mwahahha! Thank you for the thread crash! All my rantings about the kitten army will be logged into here! Oh, and for those who don't like the super bowl..theres going to be a puppy bowl on animal planet, with a kitten halftime show! whoooo! I think several kittens from the army will be in it to infultrate the puppy army =)

I'm a big fan of the kitty army.
My five cats live at my ex's house because they love it there and they know the territory.
My Italian Greyhound, Belle, lives with me and misses her kitties so much.
Soon, I hope to get a new kitten to make Belle happy and be territorial here :)

anyway i have no pets .I used to have a house load which included sail fin dragon,birds,salmanders,ferrets,cats,4 dogs,rabbit,guinea pig,iguana,mouse,frog and some fish.

Wish my cat was a angel at times, when i invite ppl over i have to lock him up in a back room or he will tear into them. Only ones he gets along with besides me is my mom and my oldest niece. And every now and then it's like he snaps and attacks me....have to fight him back until he gives up....then he's back to his old self again.

I'll start...my gripe for the day
My 2 year old who's never worked a doorknob in his life, managed to open the back door and let the muddy Bassett in.
Both boys were now muddy and couldn't have been more proud of themselves.
Two hours later, I think I scrubbed up all the mud.
I'm with Allen, I think I need to stick with kitties.
