What is a good price to pay for a pair of trainers for cross training. Now normally I don't go by price as a guideline but I want a monimum really as do not widsh to spend too little.

With choices galore I am stuck. Shops mainly stock Adidas or Nike.

Looking for lightweight, good support and don't want to wind up with ankle or knee problems.

I'm finding prices from Lm30 to Lm50. Flat sole or ridged bottom? The runing variety seems too heavy for general gym and aerobics classes.

Can anyone shed some light for me please?

Hello Atlam,

I see that your thread has been visited a few times, and yet you have no replies! Anyway, with regards to the cross trainers...

You can get a good pair of trainers for no more than LM30. About two months ago, I bought a pair of Nike cross trainers from Urban Jungle for Lm25.00. They're very good for walking, reduce the impact/shock, and yet, they don't weigh as much as the running shoes, so they're great for aerobics.

As for the soles; you mentioned 'general gym and aerobics classes', so you'll need something with a good grip, or else you'll slide all over the place. I would avoid the dance/jazz shoes, they have no grip at all, which is fine for a dance class, but not for aerobics.

Oh, and another thing.. I have found that it is only worth paying for a pair of Adidas or Nike etc. shoes, as the copies work out to be a false economy. That, and sometimes the cheaper versions skimp on the ability to absorb the shocks etc.

I hope this helps you some what, but if you need anything else, just drop me a line. :)

hi atlam, i went to Eurosport a few years ago and bought a pair of sketchers for lm30, they are a fantastic pair of shoes, light weight, comfortable, yet strong and flexible.....a decent depth to the sole too, should you walk of run you will appreciate the cushioning effect..............Eurosport are always having sales, it's worth getting a good brand name in shoes, cheap and poor quality one will either break quickly or hurt your feet alwayscheers

Many thanks for your responses Porcelina and Jacko, any advice is well appreciated. I've had a look in both urban and eurosport I was rather unlucky as none of my size.

I'm going to give the larger B'kara store a try this weekend !

A small interjection of my own here ... for anyone reading this and maybe being as ignorant as I was once upon a time.

My early running days I used to get confused with all the different styles available, and once opted for Walking shoes when I realy need Running shoes... stupid salesman didn`t bother to point out the difference..... and found out (too late) that the difference between a walking and running shoe is that for walking the heel is lower enabling the heel to swing out in front as you walk so you roll over your foot onto the toes. Standing in them you should feel almost like your heels are lower than your toes.

Running shoes are designed with more height to the heel thereby throwing your weight forward ... they actually should make you feel like "bouncing around" on your toes .... and feel like running.

Buying good brand names is worth the money.
