My daughter wants to go on a Mediterranean cruise...or at least is giving some serious thought and has brought home all sorts of brochures. They all seem great, from 10 to 14 days.

2 of the cruises we looked at actually have a stop at Valletta, but I would love to see the ancient ruins/ temples and they seem to be furthest away from where the ships dock.

Yes, unhappily the temples are a long drive from Valletta. But there are some places that you can visit in the capital.

There are tours organised by the company that you go with on the ship, you'll only be stopping in malta half a day or so anyway, not alot of time to go to most places, just don't use the white taxi's they are a rip off......there's some very interesting things to see in valletta itself too.
A visit to Mdina and Rabat in the centre of the island is always recommended too, outside of Valletta it's the easiest to get too, with a wide variety of museums etc......truly a beautiful experience

Ahhhhhh......I see now that you are going for a cruise! Have a wonderful time - and don't throw elastic bands at all the men you meet!
Very occasionally some of the cruise ships stop in Gozo, but they have to use up fuel as there is no suitable mooring - a buoy would cost LM76,000 to make a secure mooring off Xlendi for example..........but if your cruise shipped stopped in Gozo you could see one of the oldest standing temples calld 'Ggantija' which is really really boring as it is modelled on an earth goddess with very fat thighs.

I also have about 10 days for Christmas, but things come up during the year and to get "time off" then (get paid anyway) I would have to basically beg which I don't like one bit! Usually I get my way anyway, but you shouldn't have to explain your personal life, you should just book leave in advance and take it!!
For hotels it's the busiest time of the year so it's quite understandable that they stop leave, not that I would like it of course!
I will make the most of my princess yes, I'm taking her with me for a week cruise around the mediterranean, she's soooo excited!!
