Money is just metal - paper and plasticcards.

It does`nt influence on your basic values and needs: love - passion - care

But it gives you the ability to do the things you want: live in a nice place - travel - healthy food - education etc.

Hard to live without - unfortunately, since a lot of people takes advantage of that...

The world would be a much better place (perhaps) without itconfused

Money comes and money goes... Some of the greatest times we've had with my kids was when they were growing up (just the 3 of us) and totally broke... Being broke meant having to use one's imagination and being resourceful... It teaches lateral thinking... Their friends loved coming round to ours coz we had a "freedom" they didn't experience at home... Fond memories hug

It's not the money that makes one happy it's the company one keeps...
hug

Having said that it must be "miserable" to be sick and not have the financial means to get treated properly... Or not have a roof over one's head... sigh

For me money is important in the sense that you need to pay your bills, buy food, buy the basics you need to get through life and have the odd luxuries from time to time. As like that you appreciate the things you have and buy than if you was a millionaire and could buy what you want when you want. i got brought up with not all that much money in the family, just enough to get by and come on holidays to malta (as i lived in uk) but i had a great childhood with love and good times.

So for me family, love and good health mean more to me than any amount of millions of money

There is absolutely no point in worrting about the future if you have just enough money to survive today........ after spending many years making provision for my future that came home to me with a huge bump when I lost everything. Until I stopped worrying about the future it was as though I had no future.

It is true that the love of money for it's own sake is a 'sin'. I remember at one time being so miserable both at home and at work that I used to work out how much income I was getting from my investments on a daily and even hourly basis - it didn't make me happy at all..........I guess if one is rich one can be miserable in comfort, but I've always been happiest when I've been relatively poor but in the company of a loved one.

This time around I feel positive that things are different. I know that whatever happens I am capable of survival, but that ultimately I shall die like everybody else - so I do my best to make sure each day counts!

Simple things in life can give great pleasure and they don't need money. The opposite of having money though is the 'prison' of debt......that is so debilitating and reduces your comfort zone to an ever decreasing circle of of ability to do anything positive.

I feel very strongly that the young men and women who are in University in the UK are being burdened with debt that will haunt many of them for many years to come. How can a youngster save up for a car, let alone the deposit on a house if they are burdened with huge debts before they even start a career? sigh dunno

'Annual income 21 shillings, annual expenditure 21 shillings and 3 pence; result is misery.........annual income 21 shillings, annual expenditure 20 shillings, 11 pence and three farthings; result is happiness'

Summat like dat, innit?

Life is made of aspirations dear WW and FOS

Aspirations are desires that you would want to see transformed into concrete reality. And to do that you need money.
Since money does not buy you love, then I would rather have money if I did'nt have love. After all love will only last until you continue feeding it with money.
Just keep telling your boyfriend/girlifiend week in week out that you cannot take them anywhere because you are broke, just tell them that there is nothing to eat in the fridge, or that they have to contribute to the rent, because you are broke, and you will see how long their love will last!

I don't need anyone to feed me or pay for my rent Antcus. And I pay my own bills! Been doing it for years as well as bringing up my 2 children while working full time.
My needs are simple and my aspirations have been and will continue to be fulfilled through my own input not someone else's money!cheers

Whoever mentioned somebody else's money FOS?
I too did what you did or are still doing, but would love to have not only the money to do it, but as much of it in excess of any need, even to cover my wildest dreams....and some of the wilder dreams require loads of money to make them come true.

My wilder dreams require a certain amount of money to make them come true... Not an unachievable amount... Now if someone turned up tomorrow and gave me loads of money I wouldn't be fool enough to turn it down unless it was "crime money" (in which case I would). In the mean time I'm gonna proceed with what I have and not spend a single second worrying about what if I had more...

Nothing and I mean NOTHING is worth more than the health and the safety of oneself and loved ones. I know that from experience (not pleasant ones)...

I could'nt agree with you more about the last paragraph.
Rest assured however that nobody is ever going to give you money for nothing. So if you want some more, you have to make it happen. Or just dream about it at night as I do. Maybe one day I will wake up to the reality that my dream has become a reality!!

You have obviously not been reading the threads that weren't about word games for a while Antcus! I AM making it happen right now! Instead of just lying in bed dreaming about it!

Very true - many successful people claim their success to 'luck' but it's simply not true...they work very hard at being 'lucky' - however a positive attitude does work and small incremental steps make a huge goal really quite easy over time! :)
