your last 2 paragraphs are probably the reason so many fatalities have increased these past 4 years... as most outsourcing has proven sub standard results are the norm.
to address the "business" aspect 30billion dollars are spent collectively by Big Pharmas lobbyist to accelerate release and hinder licensed legal Generic manufacturers from bring their product to the market.
With the technology in that field, it does not take that long to rediscover whats in a medication.
Thats why Big Pharma pushed themselves for the time limit before another could sell it on open market.
There are so many cases pending in court that the blocking of generics is only a greedy action.
I agree doctors surgery and hospitals cannot increase the flow of income but medicine manufacturers are "blue chip" stocks. even when the lose in litigation to consumers .....they continue as its just another day.
No my friend, people are not running to "herbs and natural cures " because it works better they do it for the same reason Big Pharma outsources their research.
And outsourcing scaresme because these countries do not hold the same standards ...what am I talking about FDA is the training ground for Big Pharma executives!!!

It's not about re-discovering. The ingredients are known. I've participated in original drug disovery. Finding a process to make what you want to make (within regulations) is very difficult. Often information that you obtained during actual drug discovery is of important value, but this data is not available to generic companies.
You can reproduce a drug according to standards but sometimes a small deviation can make a big difference. It's not even about "the purer the better". There are many variables.
I have not researched this yet. yet I recall many new drugs on the market where discovered accidently while attempting to invent /create another drug for a totally different function/purpose.
Some of these where some real cash cows. granted research and testing is the most expensive part of medicine. however along the way many accidental discoveries are acquired. while trying to create one they create four others...
as Edison said he did not fail 4500 times at creatin the light bulb he discovered 4500 ways it would'nt work.... OK OK I paraphrased the quote.
I agree these natural supplements are at best in their infancy stage... still the RDA has been all but proven incorrect from Vitamin D shoot most vitamin requirements. RDA levels are way below proven healthy levels. They have been for years, The list of vitamins continues to grow yet no changes in the RDA which is set by who? granted fat soluble and water soluble are major issues in this matter.
It troubles me to no end when It is common knowledge that those whose job it is to protect the consumer betrays that trust. For a meager 2 weeks on the french riveria or low interest home loan and usually a seat on the board of some Big Pharma corporation.
In no way do I dispute your ability and knowledge in this field of expertise.
I just am seeing it from a concerned consumers perspective. my respect to you for addressing a consumers concern
It is true that some drugs are being found "accidentally". It's because drug discovery is no exact science and sometimes you find new properties that you didn't expect. Generally though, the number of discarded attempts outnumber the success stories by far. Sometimes millions of compounds are being screened using parallel synthesis in order to find one acceptable molecule if at all.
I clearly understand consumer concerns. I'm a potential consumer myself. It's not like I get a rebate or anything. Drugs and health care in general are much too expensive in this country. No doubt.

nevermind.
