She started tae kwon do today and the instructor said she is a natural, and she is very flexible...she actually thought that my daughter had taken gymnastics or ballet or something. I dont want this to go to her head but I want to encourage her to keep at it....dont know what to do!!
Thats kinda what I am thinking but I just dont want her to become one of those people who thinks they dont have to practice because she is a natural...if that makes any sense???
My son is the QB for his football team and very athletic and he knows he is good. What I did to make him be a bit more humble was instructed him never to compare his abilities with the other kids and to help the other kids on his team and use his talents to teach them to be better players.
Since that day, he's become a leader on the field beyond his years. His coaches praise him for being a good leader and friend to the other players on his team...his coach told me last week "even though he knows he's the best player on the team, he's always there to lend a hand to the others and for that he will always be a winner."
That's cool that your daughter is taking Tae Keon Doe. I took that as I was a kid and I think it was a very good thing. If the instructor is a good one they will eventually take care of that situation. I would sit in on her lessons and see if they talk about how it's only to be used for self defense. Some teachers tend to focus on competition instead of self defense. While competitions are fun just keep an eye on things because this can lead to more of a big head.
Right she mentioned competitions but she has said more than once that it is more for self defense then anything....did I mention my daughter is only 8?
Sorry for the double post, I just reread what I wrote and am not sure it make sense. What I'm trying to say is martial arts has an element to it that teaches responsibility and respect. Just make sure that this element is there.
Well look at it this way if she thinks she doesn't have to practice a fellow student will wake her up and then she will work harder to be the best.you just have to let them get knocked down so they can get back up.(makes them stronger)
