How will you know it is real love? I have dated women since my divorce and some have even told me that they loved me....strange they still left so I am convinced that their love was not real, but imagined.
To me love is something much stronger, and long lasting...dare I say unconditional... I do not say it easily or without conviction.
What's your experience on this one?

That's what I mean! my book is like a bunch of short stories! so their view of love must have been different than mine.
The Question, TNM is what do You think real love is? and how will you know?

Hi SIR,

Nice to meet you.

"Love is best seen as devotion and action, not an emotion. Love is not exclusively based on how we feel. Certainly our emotions are involved, but they cannot be our only criteria for love. True devotion will always lead to action - true love."

This was given to me by a friend,....but since he's headed towards his second divorce,....who knows. If I had the answer and could bottle it,....

Never having to say your sorry,.....I don't know,....I find that if you love someone and have erred, that a heartfelt sorry would be the first thing I would say,....if I didn't care for them, why would I bother with a "sorry", orther than to be polite. (But Love Story was a good movie!)

Yes, someone standing beside you during both the good times AND especially the bad times can indicate true love. I really believe that it is through actions that love is demonstrated. Words are just words. And when someone is there with you, smiling, when you have just finished a trip down the highway to hell, it really requires no words!

However, no matter how "true" the love is, it requires "tending", just like a fire. Throw some gasoline on some logs and toss a match. The initial "fire" is powerful and impressive, but without proper effort to tend and stoke the fire, it will quickly die down and go out. A well-tended fire though, once it gets going, may not be as spectacular, but those coals keep burning and are hard to put out. Take the "fire" for granted, and it will go out. And such is love IMHO.

Good advice and I must agree. Actions not words. Actions plus words. It all adds up.
But when someone says that they love you, it immediately connects to what YOU think love is, not their true intention always.
I'll have to pay more attention I guess to keep from getting hurt, cuz feeling abandoned after feeling loved can really mess with a guy.

Stop looking for love so desperately.

That's a start.

Maybe then you won't get so hurt

TNM the hurt comes after the love part....that is what I'm getting at here. People say that they love you, but it meant something different to them than what it meant to you....or they change....either way someone is left shaking their head.
I suppose I am looking for love, but in this case it is after the fact, not before.

I am still happily single. I am moving forward like I have not been able to in years. Trying to find love by actually looking for it seems futile indeed. Perhaps the title of the thread should be "what is real love to you?", which you have not answered yet!

Real love? Easy, that's when I go on a fishing trip with my buddies, and leave my last beer on the table before crawling into the tent,....and when I crawl out the next morning, ITS STILL THERE!! Damn, I'd throw myself on a live gernade for them!!

Hi all.............

Love is like the wind., you can't see it..... But, you can feel it.

A soft lingering kiss in love is a lovely trick designed by nature to stop speech when words become unnecessary.

The best way to spell "Love at first sight" is...... "Lust".

"The best way to spell "Love" is....... "T-I-M-E".

Same thing has happened to me, been told that they love me and then they are looking for the exit door shortly thereafter. Love must be nurtured and grown, if neglected it will eventually die on the vine.
