Yep me again; Whilst i'm on my soapbox.

Christmas Advertising

It is 8 weeks by my books and already i am being bombarded with Christmas Advertising. I thought it was law that you weren't allowed to do Christmas advertising until 6 weeks prior to the date.

Am I right or wrong. Personally i feel all references to Christmas should be restricted to december and december only. I like the Christmas pictures and the christmas carols. But by the time I reach christmas day, I can give Christmas the right royal fingers as i have had an absolute guts full of the lot; as it gets rammed down my throat daily.

Am I right or wrong.

I won't go into the meaning of Christmas and that it is only paid lip service in society today. But who would like to see Christmas and the Christmas period redefined.

( Need boxing emoticon, And this i would follow with the words "bring it on")

Yep me to.

Which is why the Christmas advertising gets up my nose more so. It is a season i wish was forgotten and bypassed.

It is just full of so much misery and hardship that is masked over because all the do gooders are preaching peace love and happiness. And the moguls are preaching Money Money money.

And you and i are just trying to live.

How is winter treating you Kid. I was out SunBaking in the weekend. Got to colour up for the summer beaches. grin

Christmas only sucks if you dont have much money... otherwise it is great.

I got given this huge life like xmas tree my first REAL awesome xmas tree last year and i had a great time putting it up and then decorating it with the kids next door cuz their mum wouldnt put theres up till only a few days before xmas.

It is ultimately about being a kid, you need to remember back to the feeling of going to be soooo excited and waking up even more so then it sort of brings it back to where it should be - about the children. Too many people barr humbug it all around kids.

Why not just go with the flow not moan and groan and just sit back and enjoy... anyways it is the women that do most of the work ...!!scold Buy all the family presents, go grocery shopping, cook most of the food and decorate the house and bake the xmas goodies, pack for the holidays etc.... what are you boys complaining about all you got to do is lift the lid on the bbque and pay for it all!applause

So far not to bad. It's chilly, dropping down to -5 at night but daytime temps from 0 to 8. Snowed twice but thankfully it's almost all melted. It will snow again and it will stay. I can feel it in my bones.laugh

Good morning Karen kiss

Welcom to my annual whinge.

Now it is all about the kids huh.

Well how often have you heard this conversation. "Well what are we going to get little Bobby; Nuh Aunty is getting that. But we spent this much on Daphne. Oh but my Ex is getting that and we can't be outdone by him."

And similar conversations along similar lines.

As well as asking kids outright back in October, November what they want. There is no surprise left, and it all comes down to how much you spent.

Lets be practical. Christmas is a huge waste of money. Too many Families buy too much food and cook twice as much food for the day than needed. How much just gets tossed. And spend way to much on Gifts because they don't want to be seen as cheap, and not having christmas spirit by friends,Family, and Nieghbours.

In NZ Christmas is hot. It should be no more than a quick salad and some steakettes or sausages.

And don't ten people jump on here and say thats what they do. For i have been to enough Christmas Day BBQs to know there are at least three types of salad, when one would of sufficed. And there is always one type that no one really touches.

Christmas Decorations are bought from the shop and thrown on a tree. Now all those that have a fake tree well done to you. Far better than those crettins who chop down beautiful nature to celebrate something they don't really believe in for two weeks. And if we really wanted to enhance the christmas spirit we would sit down as a family and create our own Christmas decorations each year. Retaining only the best from previous years.

How many of us don't go to church on a regular basis (No less than once a month) But stop the world for Christmas. Why Celebrate something we obviously don't believe in. If we truly believed we would be at Church every week.

But allow me to step back just a little. Its not the idea of Christmas I'm against. Its not the Family and the Christmas joy we are suppose to experience that I'm against.

Its the Bloody Media and the constant Bombardment of buy buy buy. And the Bloody Radio With its constant bloody Xmas reminders and Christmas songs. Its the Bloody Shops with there Bloody Christmas background music and Cheesy christmas greetings and Thank yous, that aren't heartfelt.

If all this was held back to two weeks before the special day it would be so much more acceptable and people would feel the magic so much more strongly. frustrated frustrated very mad

It is so easy to see and understand but the moguls just jeep pushing the boundaries more and more.

Let me share a little secret. The best Christmas i've had in a long while was last year. Yes I was freshly seperated. My wife was up in arms and said since you don't celebrate Christmas I want our son for Christmas day. Even though I had asked for him to be with me for a fortnight I relented and said yes. After all she had spoken the truth why penalise my son that little bit of Christmas magic. (We won't go any deeper there). Well the Golf Boys were having a Christmas Haggle at the Golf Course which seems to be an annual event.(Better than sitting at home alone) So on Christmas morn I went to golf and played with the Boys. Then we went back to the organisers house for drinks. I didn't really know how day would run and just went with flow.
His house was in walking distance of mine (cool). He did a BBQ lunch which went down will with the drinks. I won some money from my Golf so extra bonus. Walked back to house and met wife to take back my son. And then with son walked back round to Party. Had more Drinks and a hangi for tea.
It cost me nothing. There were some kids there that the boy knew from school, So he was entertained. It didn't cost me a cent and i didn't have to do any dishes. It was the best Christmas i've had in many years and no Family.

Yes jean we have the recycling.

It is a joke isn't it. It would be a lot fairer on the population if the company would just set a price and sell. Not Pump up prices for season then slash prices as season ends.

We as the end user don't deserve it. And they could save money on all the extra advertising each business does.

Well thanks Raina. Glad to see I'm not the only one with that attitude.

There will be no decs in my house again this year.

I will leave it closer to Christmas Day to confirm my plans.

But I cuold say now do you want me to come walk the dog with you on Christmas day. Or do you want to come be my Caddy on Christmas Day.

One is making Assumptions weather will be nice, and that the Golf boys will be doing the same thing this year.

Have a great weekend Raina. And yes I have witnessed that side of the Christmas coin all to often. Yet still families put themseleves thier. sigh blues
