I am after information if I may be so nice and ask for some laugh

My 30th is in a year and a half. I want to go to Fiji. I have looked online and Fiji still sounds freaking awesome but I would also like to go to NZ aswell.

I have a few friends that would like to go to NZ so thought I would look into that too and then get all the info I can and then present them with it and those that want to come with me, can!

My friends have a different range of activities they would like to do but on a whole, as a group, we would settle for the simpler things in life. laugh

We would want to check out:

Beaches - Just because I am from the country and I love looking at the ocean and stunning views lol..

Shops - We are female after all. wink

Wineries - would love to do a wine tour! I have never done one!

Museum - Because we can! lol

Maori cultural centres - Is that what they are called? I am thinking Rotorua for this for some reason..

I am not into the real hard core adventure side of things. Like I wouldn't want to go white water rafting or sky diving or bunji jumping. My friends might though.. Might look into it anyway.

I thought I could google all I like for info, and I have been today but would rather first hand information from the folks that know it well.

So, Sell me where you live!.. Tell me what is so great and fun in the area you live in.

Would love to know it all!

Thanks!

My favourite wine regions and varieties/styles in New Zealand are, Hawkes Bay (red blends, and cabernets), Marlborough (sauvignon blanc), and Otago (pinot noir).

The volcanoes are fantastic, especially Ruapehu and Taranaki....and you can stay at the Grand Chateau.

Rotorua is a geat cultural area to learn the history of the Maori people.....maybe try a Hangi and concert.

Bay of Islands and swim with the dolphins.

The South Island is a natural wonderland.

Hi Wendy.

Thanks for that. I will check out that site now. Rotorua certainly has got a few things that I want to do. Bay of Plenty just looks divine and there are cool things there that I checked out online.

Shopping wise - Yes I am from the country lol.. so I don't need to do flashy city shopping LOL always nice to look but give me a shopping centre with big chain stores and I am happy laugh

Swim with dolphins is a must! applause

I have relatives in Taranaki so will definately be going that way.

I have heard nice things about the South Island but I will leave that to another time.. North Island is the aim! lol. I would love to do the S.I in the winter smitten

Hi Lou

You really shouldn't miss the South Island scold if you can help it... sorry for not plugging the BoP more Karen but I really love the SI

Why the winter? Is that just a matter of time? I guess it is difficult to fit both in in one trip for a lot of people...still recommend a summer visit to the SI when you get there...

It is worth going in winter if you want to specifically pursue winter pursuits like skiing etc and are up a mountain (which can also be done in the NI) but otherwise bad weather - rain, more rain, cloud, fog, rain and i fyour lucky some snow in places - can ruin the otherwise spectacular views, beaches, sounds and forest walks...and visits to nature. Yes there is dolphin swimming in the SI too, and whale watching, (Kaikoura) and penguins and albatross (Dunedin). So if you can't make it this time...highly recommend get there in spring-summer another visit...banana

I was thinking Winter for the snow factor. I have never ever touched/seen snow and would love to see some sigh I just assumed winter would be the go, but I haven't done my research at all with the S.I as it's not on agenda yet, but it will be one day.

Mind you, I think I am only 2 hours from the snow here.. might have to plan a weekend away in winter with my daughter.!

Under the assumption I am still living here when the time comes. I can offer you little. Depending on what you and your friends seek. But for a short time (A week or two) I can offer my house and section as a base from which you and your friends can come and go. OK you'll be camping on the back lawn or sleeping on the floor, (Unless some female wish's to share my bed grin ) But it does save you the cost of accommodation. Beaches around Hawkes Bay are a dime a dozen and cater to all types. Wineries again are a dime a dozen. A couple are ranked in the top ten in the Southern hemisphere i believe. Quite a few have won awards from various shows for various varieties. Wine barf laugh

As for local native culture. If you want it you can find it. We have some here in HB. Never seen them. The Sth Island. If you like the bush and the Mountains by all means go. If your materialistic don't bother.

HB is a short hop skip and jump to most other parts of the Nth Island. Quite easily a day trip if you want to get there and back. The furtherest point away being the Taranaki where you have contacts. As the time gets closer talk to us and I'll let you know.

Assuming I'm still online. laugh
