Meet now , stop building up high expectations over the keyboard.. nothing worse than thinking "YES OH YES" only to meet and find out its.. no.. HELL NO!!! You can only learn so much thru a keyboard and webcam. Meeting quickly and in a public place is best and safest way to do it , i have heaps of friends from doing this ( stay in contact with a lot of them! ) and sometimes their friends could be the ones you end up dating!

I believe that you should give the guy a chance.
He may have been going through a very rough patch in his life and really needed you to re-assure him that you want to meet him and he probabaly wanted or still does want to meet you!!! ( You know what I mean sxc 666)

By fears I mean is the fantasy behind the computer desk going to be demolished once you meet face to face? I am lucky and have only met one guy face to face and we are still good friends.
But I truly believe the person I am taking at the moment may just very well be the one . And I cant help feeling what if this utter excitment and anticipation is shattered when we meet. I have been open and honest with him and he has payed me the same respect back. I was just wondering how other people felt and any experiences people may have had that they could share.

"plink, plink" <---here's my two cents. If you want to meet "him", and he wants to meet you, go for it! And if you've gotten along well so far, I don't see the problem.
If he doesn't turn out to be what you expected, (but I hope he is), you'd have a new GREAT friend at the very least.
It's cool to be smitten, so go with your gut. If it feels right do it. Hopefully your views of this guy aren't shattered when you meet, but I say "drive fast and take chances".
I'd hate to think I let something slip through my fingers and always wonder "what if...."
