What is it with people?

Just watching the news and having a tea when a story about a father who killed his family comes on.
A 35 yr old man killed his wife and 4 kids, then set the house on fire, stabbed himself and was 'saved ' out on his lawn.

I watch the news only for the weather reports. I get the weekend paper, well because it was a highschool kid that came by and they are having an "earn points towards paying for college" thing right now (Earn X amount of points, get X amount paid towards classes).

Otherwise, the news is much too depressing...

That is not the only one. About a few days ago they found 4 children dead in DC. They had been in dead in the house for weeks with the mother. Child services neglected to follow up...sigh

I can't(well sadly I can) believe that people behave this way.

The human beast is a strange creature, supposedly evolved and intelligent (that's a laugh for a vast majority) but yet the more we move on the worse we seem to get.
I'm not wearing rose colored glasses nor am I a nay sayer, but there's no reason for any of this crap to be going on in this day and age.

There are places a person can turn to before going to such lengths, wether they have money or not,and how in God's name can a family lay dead for any number of days before someone takes note?
Are we so isolated from each other now?
