Try writing it in your profile don't worry about hurting their feeling be straight a to the point

If you go into edit profile and then into mail preferences, you tick the boxes of countries you don't wish to receive emails from. Then save changes. You can switch off the IM by going into edit profile and then settings, but I don't think you can pick and choose counties with the IM, as you can with mails.

Please do not (even jokingly) tell me to be flattered as proposals of marriage (and worse) from men young enough to be my son are not funny and are such a waste of time.
