I live in the woods, is that remote enough? Can't have dogs or cats here because the wolves and coyotes eat them.
A garden? The deer and bear finish it off before I have a chance to partake.
I have a dirt driveway that needs constant attention in the summer to keep the mud holes at bay. In the winter it takes three hours to clear the snow with the old snowblower I can barely keep running.
No curtains on my windows. Can't decide on a color. And besides, the deer enjoy watching me working in the kitchen.
I do have indoor plumbing. Quite a luxury! Especially in the winter.
My propane furnace is a secondary source of heat. I usually keep a fire going in my woodstove when I'm home. Cutting wood gives me the exercise that my old bones need to stay flexible.
In case you're interested in tidbits of information, wood warms you three times. Once when you cut it, once when you split it and once when you burn it. Hot dog! Now there's a bargain!

I live in the middle of gigantic tomatoe woods , in a house without windows but with loopholes, necessary for defending from the aggressive phytotoxin-resistent killer tomatoes.

I live in a small, quain town in the NW corner of CT. I got a job here a few years ago and fell in love with the area, so I decided to move here. It's a kinda sleepy little place where you can feel really safe. I don't miss the hussle and bussle of the cities and larger towns of the past. Most people know each other around here and look out for one another too. I have made some great friendships here! It's the kind of place where the only real crime is like some kid may get his bike stolen only to find it in the park the next day or when the resident State Trooper nabs someone speeding or gets a drunk off the road. The only drawback is that it is small-it seems ther is a lot of gossip from all the locals. I tend to stay under the radar. I like it like that-even though I live above the coffee shop. I went out to CA with work for a month last year and when I got home, I realized I forgot to lock my door! Everything was in order in my apartment. I was truly grateful for that!

Well it's half way between two extremes here. 21 square mile island but 75,000 people. One high rise block! All of ten stories. Some lovely pockets of countryside but only small. The coasts are very varied though. Long sandy beaches, 200 ft cliffs, and plain old rocky and barren areas. Quite a few shipwrecks around here, a couple of dozen in my lifetime, 3 big ones one winter. The strangest place I Live is in my own head. I expect a lot of us can say that.

hi totallytopside !
you know what ..... i've had a dream ...a wild stupid dream that will never become reality because its just too much to expect in reality ...so i'll just carry on dreaming about it.
and the dream is this ..there are so many interesting people from connectingles that live in places all over the world that a lot of people have never heard of ..to just be a able to touch a button on your computer and a map shows you where all these places are !
where's Ironton, Minnesota ? ..what part of america is that ?.....i've properly woken up now so its a thousand questions time before a go on a half hour train journey to central london to do some good cheap shopping
1.what does your sunday normally consist off ...do you go to church ?...i don't
2. what are the people like where you live ? are they lower class ? working class ? middle class ? upper class ?
3. does anybody ever knock on your door to borrow a cup of sugar ..or do people just keep themselves to themselves ?
4. part of me would love to live somewhere like where i am now right in the centre of things ( 5 miniutes walk from a subway station that just takes 10 miniutes from there into oxford street west end or trafalger square ) its great to be able to go where you want and when you want with also good 24 hours a day buses into central london just 5 miniutes walk away ......and the other half of me would love a place to retreat to away from it all.....
TO BE ABLE TO APRECIATE THE BEAUTY OF NATURE
because when you live in the big city all the time ( by the way i would love somewhere like new york city with 24 hour subways as well ) !
unless you take country breaks go camping backpacking or adventure holidays you don't see all these things which at my time of life i want to start seeing !
mind you i don't fancy any bears coming up to me tapping my shoulders and saying " hello dinner "
thats the only thing that i'm affraid about with living in the wilds ...and also why i've not been on safari yet ( in case the range rover breaks down)
A LOT OF THESE ANIMALS SEE A BLACK MAN AND THINKS " OH GOOD THERE'S ONE THATS ALREADY COOKED "
5. anyway why on earth have you choosen to live in the woods ??
don't you get bitten by snakes and bears running after you man ?
6.whats are coyotes ?
7. do don't live by yourself do you ?
8. how long have you lived there for ?
9. sorry to hear about the garden !...how big is it ?
10. do you have a fence to keep out the wild animals ?
11. tell us about your indoor plumbing ...where do you get the water from ? do you have to pay for the water supply ?
12. what about sewage ?...what do you do about that ?
13. do you find many people want to visit you because of where you live ?
14. are you allowed to cut down the trees for wood where you live totallytopside?
don't laugh ..and i don't know why because i'm affraid of skiing ( did i spell that right )? and hate snow ..but i've always wanted to stay in a chalet in the mountains in switzerland or austria somewhere for a week or weekend just so that i can say that i've been there !
woods i'm not too sure about but mountains perhaps

I live on a farm, middle nowhere! nearest town, 30 mins drive, get no sigal for internet or anything lol! I tkae my laptop into work, or to my friends place to catch up! only get 2 channals on telly!
I've never lived anywhere but "a remote subarban place." Although I've traveled extensively, the largest town I've ever lived in had a total of about eighteen thousand people - Small by most folks' standards - And I lived in a 'town' of about 20 people for more than 20 years before moving to Tennessee last March.
As to what it's like - I'm guess I really don't know how to answer that because I don't know what living anywhere else is like. I do know that I treasure the solitude and having to be more or less self sufficient and not dependant upon others to do everything for me.
Let's see if I can answer some of your questions...
1. I usually take it easy on Sundays. Maybe cook a special dinner. Go for a walk. Relax.
2. Most everyone who lives in my area belong to the working class. There are some upper class folk that have cabins in the area.
3. No one ever knocks on my door. The neighbors are few around here. Everyone keeps to themselves, but are friendly and helpful. When I first moved here, I would walk to town and people would stop and ask me if I needed a ride.
4. In my experience, none of the predators around here feed on people. Bears are capable, but prefer to keep their distance.
5. I chose to live here because I enjoy it. In my youth, I lived in the city and vacationed in the woods. Seemed like a wonderful idea when I decided to move here. Now I live where people like to vacation.
6. Coyotes are canines similar to small wolves. Maybe halfway between a wold and a fox.
7. Yes, I live by myself mostly. I say mostly because my grown children have occasionally stayed with me between jobs or during hard times.
8. I've lived in this house for about twelve years now.
9. The garden is probably 50 feet long and 25 feet wide. Its been grown over the last few years though. The deer population has exploded here and its hard to keep them at bay.
10. Yes, but just around the garden. They really don't work, though.
11. I have a well that supplies the house with water. It works just like the city. Turn on the faucet, out comes the water.
12. The sewage is taken care of by the septic system. Its a single dwelling system that naturally processes waste.
13. About the only visitors I get here are relatives. They come here to enjoy the outdoors. There are plenty of lakes for fishing and lots of wildlife to observe.
14. Yes, I can cut down trees for firewood. I own forty acres and the wood I use comes from fallen trees. I leave the dead trees that are still standing. They are used as homes for wildlife.
15. No, Gillie, I've never seen that film.
And where is Ironton, Minnesota? It is about dead center in North America. About three or four hours from Canada, depending on whose driving.
There you go Gillie! I know there's not much detail, but that was quite a few questions. Hope this helped ease your curiosity.
By the way, I just came back from London a few weeks ago. I like it there. Nice change. Funny, huh? I live in the woods and vacation in the city. Go figure!
P.S. I had to delete your quote because with it, I went over 4000 characters!
