Hi all,
I posted a stop the seal hunt petition and it looks like so many people signed it as I got this newsletter from thier website just now which you can see a copy of here

Dear Ben
Over the past few weeks, the world has watched in horror as Canadian sealers brandished clubs and rifles, brutally slaughtering thousands of defenseless pups, most only a few weeks old. As you read this today, the commercial seal hunt has moved northward where the killings will resume -- with sealers allowed to kill 275,000 seals this year.

Because of your support, we have achieved many landmark victories in our campaign to save the seals -- and our efforts are reaching a critical mass. This year, it is clear the end of the seal slaughter is finally in sight.

so I just wanted to say a BIG thank you to everyone who went on the link and signed the petition I know it does say the seal slaughter is finally in sight but I feel like we still have a long long way to go and for that reason

Thanks everyone
Ben handshake

Hey, good for you. I hope you don't like fish. If the seal population is not controlled, you will not be eating fish anymore. Maybe they could hunt them in a more humane method, I agree, but they still need to be controlled.
Is it because they are cute, that everyone has a problem. It is like when I see a can of tuna that says it's dolphin friendly. What about the freaking tuna?
Maybe you don't see it as a food source, but I know plenty of people who depend on this hunt for survival. Do you like to go shoot Bambi every year at hunting season? If you had said whales, I would agree. They do not deplete a huge food source, and the oil can replaced by newer products.
Please don't send me a bunch of hate mail. I deplore killing of any kind.

I am the kind of guy who bought a bb gun to kill a rat that was in the bird feeder. It has never been fired. But for the fact I put food out, It would not be there. Oh god, I thought people would send me death threats over earlier post. Thanks .

It’s not so much controlling the population of seals Bowie Most of the harp seal carcasses (including the meat) are simply abandoned on the ice. This isn’t killing for food or survival, it’s killing for fashion. You see Seal fur is used in the fashion industry to make luxury garments, blubber is included in several dietary supplements and penises are used in some Asian aphrodisiacs. In 2004 the UK accounted for 31% of the total value of all imports of seal products into the EU.
