jackohearts81: Two words: Fairy Tales.

Too often we think of marriage as a fairy tale. A girl meets her "prince charming" and the guy meets his "princess" and they think getting married is the pinnacle of their relationship. The "happy ending".

What we as a society need to realize is that marriage isn't a fairy tale. It's a commitment to hard work, understanding, and devotion to another person. I believe couples freshly getting married don't really consider the "...for worse" "in sickness" "til death" parts of their vows when they're both pie-eyed for each other.

We need to understand that a marriage is a "happy beginning" not a "happy ending" and we need to start treating it that way. Marriage is a huge commitment, and an everlasting responsibility.

Wonderful description

Children are not happy in a home that is angry. Just because a marriage is "intact" does not mean that the family is functional - when the marriage is bad - that is when the family is broken and fragmented. Two happy parents who are divorced from one another is far better for the kids.

My daughter did not respect me for staying with her father, my sons asked me to leave and take me with them.

I now have my daughter's respect, and my sons are happier. They say I laugh more, and seem to enjoy life ... and do not walk around as if waiting for the next explotion to happen.
