If there were only 52 weeks in a year then every calendar would be the same. There would be no need to get a new one. There is one extra day that does not fit into the system of 52 weeks.

January- 31 days (31- running total)
Febraury- 28 days (59...)
March- 31 days (90...)
April- 30 days (120...)
May- 31 days (151...)
June- 30 days (181...)
July- 31 days (212...)
August- 31 days (243...)
September- 30 days (273...)
October- 31 days (304...)
November- 30 days (334...)
December- 31 days (365.)

Of course leap year comes every four years to allow us to gather the quarter days into something useful (or not-depends on what we do that particular day I suppose).

Just think if there were exactly 52 weeks (rather than 52.17857143...) the first of January would be the same day of the week every year until leap year and then the calendar would push everything ahead by one day.

Or.

If instead of 12 months of various lengths, there were 13 months of 28 days:

You could use the same monthly calendar for every month.

If the first of January was a tuesday, the first of every month would be a tuesday etc.

Then at the end of the year there would be an extra day.
That could be a holiday, outside of all months and outside of the weekly system as well.

The extra day of leap year would have to be outside the weekly system as well.

That way the same monthly calendar could serve for all months forever.

The first of every month would always be on the same day of the week etc .

In several countries, Germany for example, it is quite common to get paid on 28 day cycle - then you get paid 13 times a year instead of just 12...... plus they sometimes give an additional summer and Christmas bonus when some manufacturing industries close down factories and all the workers have to take a vacation whether they want to or not!

Personally, I'd like to see a ten day week where most people worked six or seven days a week and then had three or four days off. We'd all start work on different days of the week, of course.

This would save on communting time and petrol/gasoline and give people more time to watch tv and be on CS and maybe even do some gardening!

I think a seven day week is so 'odd'....... we should either have a nice decimal week or even a 12 day week which is easily divisible by 2 and 3 and 4 and 6!
