Hi all,
My friend and I (both single) are travelling to Peru with GAP Adventures (March 28-April 7th, 2009. The tour is Gourmet Peru and we were hoping it might get filled up with other like minded single people...like to cook, experience new cultures, etc. We're not travel agents, we just don't want our tour to get cancelled.

The cost is $1819 CAD plus $200 USD local payment. Airfare is seperate. I'm flying out of Buffalo and it will be between $800-$1000. I know it's expensive, but it's all hotels (no camping) and you take the train up to Machu Picchu. Here's a brief itinerary:
Day 1 Arrive Lima
Arrive in Lima at any time. Days 2-3 Pisco/Ica/Nazca (2B,L,D)
Head down the coast towards Pisco. Enjoy an included tour to the Ballestas islands. Continuing south, tour a local winery before finally arriving to Nazca. Take an optional flight over the mysterious Nazca Lines then visit a fascinating Pre-Inca cemetery in the Nazca Desert. In the evening assist in the preparation of "Pachamanca", an ancient ceremony akin to the Polynesian meal of burying a variety of delicious treats wrapped in banana leaves and slow-cooking them with pre-heated rocks buried in the ground. Board a nightbus bound for Arequipa on the night of day 3. Day 4 Arequipa (B,D)
Arequipa is Peru's second-largest city and is surrounded by the Andes lying at the foot of El Misti volcano. The city enjoys a wonderful spring-like climate year-round, and also has its share of local culinary delights. Enjoy an included cooking class to experience these pleasures first-hand. Days 5-6 Cuzco (2B)
Take a short flight deeper into the Andes to Cuzco, the heart of the Inca civilization and cultural mecca. Explore this beautiful colonial city with its nearby ruins, cobblestone streets, museums and churches. Day 7 Ollantaytambo (B)
Travel with a local guide through the Sacred Valley to visit ancient Inca sites, including the picturesque town and ruins of Ollantaytambo. From here we have the opportunity to assist in making "chicha", the fermented corn-based beer, which has been made in various forms throughout the Andes for hundreds of years. Day 8 Aguas Calientes (B,L)
Head out to a nearby farm where we cook our own Pachamanca! Return to Ollantaytambo to catch an afternoon train to the town of Aguas Calientes. Day 9 Machu Picchu/Cuzco (B)
Rise early to take advantage of Machu Picchu in the early morning light. Our local guide will provide a detailed interpretation of the Inca history before other tour groups arrive at midday. Leave for Cuzco by train in the afternoon. Day 10 Lima (B,L)
Fly back to Lima. What would a trip to Peru be without mastering another famous Peruvian dish - ceviche! Learn from the experts and enjoy this fresh seafood dish. Enjoy one final night out on the town. Day 11 Depart Lima (B)

Hi
That sounds brilliant. I have registered with the Ir Aid Agency to go on a placement in 2009 and Peru and the Phillipines were my first choices. I forget the name of the village but Peru is a place I have always wanted to visit.

missadventure - I've been to South America but don't like tours - usually just wander by myself- I do speak Spanish and that is really helpful and fun.
I see you live in Niagara Falls Ont. Im sure you've been across the bridge and seen Niagara Falls NY and Buffalo. I actually like those places -because demographically they have declined steadily since their peak year 1946. They didn't have the demand for new buildings so the architecture is super! The flip side is that there is crime - decay and super high taxes.
On 11th and South in NF there are four buildings together a 14,000 sq ft Church. Two 7500 sq ft rock residences that used to be rectory etc and a pretty red 35,000 sq ft school. They are listed all 4 of them for $400,000 but bet $225k would buy them- super buildings- Might make a great summer home. Take a look next time there.
