He met her in a small cafe and asked her if she would join him for coffee. She accepted. He was so shy he did not know what to say, and she was thinking, I just wish I were home. Finally he asked the waitress for some salt for his coffee as he liked it that way. That started the falling in love process. When they married he promised once again to never lie to her. Every morning she would brew a pot of coffee and put a little salt in it as she knew that;s the way he liked it. After 40 years of marriage he passed away and left her a letter. This is what the letter said:
My Dearest, Please forgive me for lying to you our whole married life. The only lie I ever told you was about the salty coffee. I was so nervous on our first date that I actually wanted sugar but asked for salt. I never thought that could be the start of our life together and I made a promise to never lie to you. I tried to tell you the truth many times but would always remember the promise I made to you. Now I am dying and not afraid, so I tell you the truth. I don't like the salty coffee, it have a bad taste, but I drink it everyday of my life with you. I never feel sorry for anything I do for you. Having you with me was my biggest happiness for my whole life. If I could live a 2nd time I would still want to have you for my wife even though I would have to drink salty coffee again.
Reminds me of another story, which is true (as life still writes the best stories):
After 15 years of marriage a couple decided to get divorced. So the judge asked the man why he wants a deivorce. The man answered:
"We've been married for 15 years, and all what she was able to cook is Schnitzel and mash-potatoes. I cannot bear it anymore."
And the wife answered: "When we first met, I asked him what his favourite food is and he answered 'Schnitzel and mash-potatoes'. So that's why I cooked it for him every day!"
As I said, the story has really happened and shows actually very clearly the main course of most divorces: People - speak to each other! Comunicate and find out what your partner really wants - don't jump conclusions!

Communication is very important in a relationship. I enjoy stories like the one I started here as it shows how much love is still alive after all those years and that he loved her so much he would be willing to drink the salty coffee again.

When I first married Elizabeth,,,she made a chocolate cake called a"nothing cake". I hated it. I didn't even like chocolate at that time.
But being newly wed, I wanted to make her feel good, and complimented her on her culinary skills. I didn't want to hurt her feelings,
For the next 12 or 13 years, she made that awful cake, til one day. I finally told her how much I disliked that cake. Of course, she never made it again.
Bottom line...communicate honestly. Of course we were divorced a few years later. But she taught me something...say what's on your mind and don't beat around the bush.
So for all you people who think I am too brash....blame Elizabeth

Thank you sweety, The day would be much better if you were here in person drinking a cup with me. Nice weather we are having, huh? Over here we have some sleet with a little snow.
