Well kids, i have a big drive interstate tomorrow and i am not even packed yet, no laughing please. I will have to shoot shortly and get organised. The thought of packing the kids up and all their crap to listen to the 'are we there yet?' all the way made me think about all the travel we did as kids. I hated being in the car, i got car sick and dad used to smoke in the car and there wasn't any airconditioning barf fill me in on any good (or bad ) road trips you've had......

I have a really gross one........ wanna hear it......... too bad Im gonna tell it anyway.........

I too was a car sickkie person from around 7 to 11 years of age. Brought on mainly by dads habit of overfilling the petrol tank, the smell would come into the car.

Before each trip, dad would lovingly take me aside telling me that 'if YOU get FARKN sick them Im gonna FARKN KILL YOU!!' of course I was always very relaxed before we set off.

Well the best one.... I ate purple grapes at school (silly mum) a whole heap of em. We all got in the car that afternoon, I was put in the middle of the back seat, bro on one side and sis on the other. Prepared as usual my parents did not put a bag or bucket in the car.

We head off and about 2hours into the trip, I start going green, dad begins to yell threats from the drivers seat (NO pulling over in those days) and I of course look straight at my big bro as I hurl my purple grapes up and all over him......rolling on the floor laughing

He was a complete arsehole as a kid, so it was only fitting that I put him in the firing line....yay

Have a safe trip and enjoy yourself..

A couple of years ago, my Great Uncle drove up from down south, and asked if my daughter and I would like to go back down for a few weeks......and would I mind doing the majority of the driving...lucky me

I said sure, and so we organised and packed and stayed the night at my parents....

We got up early and sat down to eat breakfast...

My daughter decided she wanted cereal and milk for breakfast, which was okay.....

I went downstairs to pack up the last of our stuff in the car, and off we set....

We'd driven for about an hour and a half, and then next minute, my daughter who was in the back....before she could even say I'm gonna be sick, was pukin' pink all over the back seat (in a car not even 6 mths old)....

Anyway, eventually, after her being sick about 10 times between there and the next half an hour, I said, I think we'll have to turn back....

So my Uncle sat in the back and my daughter moved to the front, where she was still being sick, but by this stage, into a small bucket we managed to find...

The poor little thing was so tired from being sick, she fell asleep on the way home...when we finally got back, she woke up, and within 2 seconds of being out the car, was running around like any 6 year old child does!

......I later found out, while I was down packing up the car, my Dad had decided to give her grape juice after her breakfast.....

......after all that, we ended up flying down to see my Uncle...and I made sure my daughter had medicine, just incase !

Melbourne to Darwin by bus accompanied by a bottle of Drambuie. Playing "I spy something being with...... P!!" With Pete the driver and a couple of nurses for 8 hours.... Changing buses in Katherine after drinking half a slab of beer with a Catholic priest for breakfast (and discussing theology), then finding there's no toilet on the new bus and the driver's not Pete any more...... The nurses enjoyed offering to give me a hand trying to piss into a plastic bag...

You have probably left now and on your way but I came back last week from a 4000km round trip.

All I can say for kids is a DVD player is the car is your best friend. My daughter loved it and it was rather peaceful!

Enjoy it Ralf! Have a great time!

Thanks Lou, got here safe and sound. My trip was only about 800km around. I have the twin screen dvd players and they are the best thing since sliced bread. My car has been converted to an entertainment complex for everyone. I have my mp3 player blasting through the car stereo, Aidan in the front controls the reins of my mp3 player or he has his own if he gets sick of mine, Rhydian has his own mp3 in the back or watches the dvd with Braith or he can opt to play video games if he prefers. roll eyes laugh

Hope your trip was a good one!! cheers

My best road trip was when I took my five kids around QLD.... left in July last year.... did nearly 8500km in the 35 days.....

Lost the car keys for two days - they were in the car!

Became an expert at setting up the camper trailer - less than 15 mins!

Samg songs with the kids.... and played games that lasted for days...

The niggest driving day was 1200km.... - exhausting!

Worst thing was finding a body on the side of the road - and after reporting it... found out later that he had been there for two days.......

I LOVE to drive as I am a horrible passenger - get car sick so bad!
