Ok, so the one Irish institution that everyone knows the date of, other than xmas day and new year's day is St Paddys Day. But today I found out that's been changed. ...... to 15th. Would ya believe it? What's more, the church wanted to make it the first available day after Easter which turned out to be 1st April, which they thought wouldn't be taken seriously. (NO, really?) So its Sat 15th now. Has everyone gone mad?dunno

I mailed St. Patrick's Cathedral and got this reply.

Dear Mr Walsh,

Saint Patrick's Day is being marked in the Cathedral on 17 March.

Yours sincerely,

Jennifer Hickey

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't St Patricks Cathedral Church of Ireland. If this is the case then the we have to back to the crux of the argument. The Catholic Church says they are celebrating St Patricks day on the 15th of March. The Church of Ireland may decide to be traditional and celebrate it on the day it should be celebrated which is the 17th of March.

Quote from WIKIPEDIA??????
The date of the feast is occasionally moved by church authorities due to March 17 falling in Holy Week; this last happened in 1940, when Saint Patrick's Day was observed on 3 April in order to avoid it coinciding with Palm Sunday, and will happen again in 2008, when it shall be held on 15 March to avoid the second day in Holy Week.

Funny that all the other Churches see fit to mark it on the day that it falls on, though. Only one lot can be right! laugh

That sounds like fun? Is it allowed and on what day may we burn them?! We could call it St Florian's Day.

P.S. The correct prayer to St Florian, Patron saint of Fireman is apparently (well, according to Wikipedia...):

"O holy Saint Florian, spare my house, kindle others"

Very christian!
