The main thing for me would be financially independent. I'm not saying they have to be rich by any means or not have debts as long as they can pay their own way. I have been used and had to pay off debts for a girlfriend before and been stung badly because i was too generous. Don't get me wrong. I will never be mean but i'll also never be a doormat again.
and im sorry but i dont like kissing an ash tray! grand if they are an ocassional smoker and use mints but otherwise yuk!

Galwayman2008: I dont go by set criteria. Chemistry is just that, but I would want a relationship to develop out of the chemistry, a relationship that is going somewhere.

I agree with this.......real chemistry between two people is very difficult to find and if you can find that with someone then its worth hanging on to it.....anything else like money, smoking, etc can be worked at and sorted out further down the line imo.....roll eyes

Having read all this and having posted at the beginning i was starting to change my mind but no not anymore.. i agree totally crystal... any obstacle can be overcome if the chemistry is there and compromise... you have to have compromise in a relationship.. nothing is cut and dried...

Here's one for you all.......I went out with a guy a few times, I quite fancied him and we got on and seemed to like the same things, so i
thought it might be going somewhere, I'm not talking marriage but at least to the 3rd date.

When the guy turned around and said, now get this, that he found me "attractive" and that there was a "connection" between us but that the "chemistry" wasn't there.....so now we've got to fulfill 3 criteria????????????

Does chemistry come in time or does it have tobe instant? If there is something there can't the chemistry develop?

Compromise is good but only if it works both ways.

My ex was big into what he called compromise. His idea of compromise was that he took whether I gave or not. We did what he wanted whether I wanted to or not.

With chemistry - anything and everything is possible.

Without chemistry, nothing is !.

To quote the great Albert Einstein:

"Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. THAT'S relativity."

My Opinions on Chemistry....

Chemistry does not have to be immediate. How else would two people that have been friends for years getting together?

Chemistry can only be created if both work on it. 99.9% of people do not know how to work on it and build it.

It is sometimes instant and when it is not people move on as they do not have the patience or ability to create the chemistry.

Hi trapr wave

but if you didnt feel the initial buzz when you met someone then why would you want to persue it?.... the thing is if youve felt real chemistry before so you know it can exist on first a meeting with someone then why would you want to settle for anything less....maybe thats why Ive been single for so long.... doh

Hey Crystal grin

Personally I would be willing to go to 4 dates with someone before saying if the chemistry can be created. he only way to get past each date is if the physical and personality attraction is there. Yes, it is great when it is there initially but it is not always the case. I am willing to give it a chance if I like the other things about the person smile

does chemistry last? and if it does is it enough to sustain a relationship?

I went out with a guy for over a year and there was definitely a connection there. I am still mad about him and he is still mad about me and I would consider us very good friends. But there were issues that neither of us could overcome. We are at different stages in our lives.

Maybe what I thought was chemistry was not chemistry at all but something else. Maybe some of us are not capable of sustaining relationships. dunno

You really did give it a good go. 8 dates is a lot. I normally find that the first date there may be potential. If so then on to the second. It builds a little in the second....then the third goes flat and then the fourth is to say it is certainly not going anywhere rolling on the floor laughing

I imagine it is difficult to go from friends to a relationship. The only time I was close was when there was a lot of alcohol involved a few years ago. It was never going to work and we knew it. It was the alcohol that did the talking though laugh
