It depends on the crime. Murderers may do as little as 7 years, while bank robbers do 15 or more. I could list examples all day. I think the "rating system" is off.

Then do you all think that the "new generation" has no respect for individuals, their property or figures of authority because the law is too lenient?

You can't group them all in one bunch. Bad apples have been around along time and in some generations rampant.

I think sometimes though that the rights of the criminals are taken more into consideration than the victims.

This is what I mean though...our "new generation" is so used to being handled by kid gloves...and having doctors everywhere make excuses for their behaviour...it does appear as if criminals have more rights than victims...

Legally they do and authorities are also under more scrutiny as to how they deal with criminals. One slip up on something could mean a criminal gets to go free. Victims are at the mercy if slick lawyers and loopholes in alot of cases.
