Sometimes they go off track a bit but then they come back on track. Just like in real life.

Well after a while, when people have given their opinions about whats been asked, it seems a bit rude not to say hallo to the person who has posted a reply, and it would be a bit of a task to follow the person around the threads just to have a chat with them, and if others join in, you cant just ignore them because you would be getting away from the subject, its social networking, you have to chat with people.

Have to say, I agree with you. I have plucked out some interesting looking threads on here in the last couple of weeks, only to find that after a short while it turns into a silly "Hallo, Babe", "Yeah, me too" type of thread. Its frustrating. Sometimes you just want to have a good conversation about the actual subject of the thread. There are, as you say, chat rooms available for general ya de ya..

People post threads about something that means something to them, and are inviting other people's opinions on that subject, not to have it changed into a general chit chat when "people get bored". If people "get bored" after one or two posts, as Ive seen happen, God help us all!

There are some very interesting subjects brought up on here sometime, asking for answers/advice, and I, for one, wouldnt go burst into such a conversation in a pub and change it to something trivial, unless a punch up or something equivilant, was going to happen. That would be just rude, surely?

oh petal... u have captured my heart.. a kindred spirit.. someone who actually likes to have a decent proper converstion once in a while and not have it interupted with "i'm bored comments" thank u..:) i was under the impression thats what forums were for. opening a thread on a specific topic and more or less stickin to it..
